Hello everyone,

I am finally going to post a thread about hatsan shotguns. I will be in the market for a hunting shotgun soon and have came to decide I like the rem 870, mossberg 500 and the hatsans. I'm leaning more toward the hatsan due to cost. But I don't know much about them.
I have read that they are a good gun for what you pay.

Anyway, long story short, I was just offered from a dealer a Hatsan (optima), 2 barrel combo with 3 chokes 22" cantilever slug barrel and a 26" vent rib barrel. Its a pump action with a black synthetic stock. All that for 300 bucks (plus tax). It sounds too good to be true. I like the short slug barrel for deer, and the longer barrel for clays.

But this is where I get confused.

I googled 'hatsan optima' and am directed to the hatsan website. But on their webpage, 'optima' is an over/under model. It doesn't show any pump action. unless I've overlooked the webpage. I also noticed the escort line has the semi's and pump actions. That's kind of what I had my eyes on. I liked the pump action slug barrel.

Are the optimas and escorts the same? Or is the optima and older version?

Does anybody own an optima pump action? If so how is it?

I should also mention, I'm looking for a black/tactical looking shotty. For some reason I like to tac look as opposed to wood. This is why my choices are what they are. I like the rem 870 the most but it is more expensive. The mossy is my number 2 choice also because of cost. A new shotgun with chokes and two barrels is a fricken good deal.

Any info on the hatsan shotguns would be appreciated.

Thanks you for your time and for reading this thread,
Dan

The Hatsan shotguns are well-made, and with your budget considerations, would not be a regrettable purchase. If you want a tactihunting shotgun on a limited budget, but don't wish to scrimp on quality, then at this time, the Hatsan is a wise choice.

Thanks Unclemax. I am thinking that a hastan will be my choice. I would love a rem 870. But brand new with 2 barrels is a bit more than 300 dollars. I am however looking extensively on EE.

But, I still am confused on the escort/optima dilemma. Here are the two links that are making me confused:

http://hatsan.com.tr/optima.asp

I guess I should just drive to the dealer and see what he's got. I was just curious if anybody else has run into the same problem.

I agree. In my first post, I mentioned the combo package I was offered for $300. It was a cut and paste quote from an email I got from the dealer. He added the "(optima)"

Only one way to find out.

Hello everyone,

I expect that they are the same so far as the pumps and semi-autos are concerned.
Bell Distributors imports the Hatsan Escort pumps and semi-autos. They also import the Optima over/under and the Optima fold-up single shot shotguns.
North Sylva imports the Hatsan Optima pumps and semi-autos. These appear to be the same as the Escort but I haven't had one to tear down and compare.

Hatsan is made in Turkey. I used a semi for almost 2 years and dont had issues with it. I was mostly using at range fo trap and it was ok. Yes it was a challenge to get a pin when it got damaged and i was lucky to find whole seller in Mississauga On who sold me at reasonable cost and pin was installed without a problem. good luck.
