A gentleman I know called me yesterday and said his FAC ran out years ago. He is taking the non-restricted and restricted firearms course, but he has lost his 12-6 prohibited status.
He wants to trade his 12-6 guns in for an accurate 308 or 223 tactical rifle.
I don't know if his guns are worth a Remington 700 5R 308 with rings, Bushnell 3200 scope, and bipod?
It has had about 25 to 30 rounds through it.

He has the following:
S&W 29, 44magnum 4" barrel blued
S&W 586, 357 mag 4" barrel blued
Ruger GP, 100 357 4" barrel stainless
Ruger SP, 101 38 Cal I believe with a 3" barrel
Ruger SP, 101 .22 Cal I believe with a 3 1/2" barrel

I'm by no means an expert but I do have 12(6) status. Other guys can correct me if I'm off but I feel you have at least 1800.00$ to 2000.00$ worth of guns in there.

How much is the rifle worth?

N.B: You are one lucky bugger to get your hands on those sp101's :)

My guestimates assuming VG condition:

S&W 29, 44magnum 4" barrel blued $450-550
S&W 586, 357 mag 4" barrel blued $350-450
Ruger GP, 100 357 4" barrel stainless$350-400
Ruger SP, 101 38 Cal I believe with a 3" barrel $400
Ruger SP, 101 .22 Cal I believe with a 3 1/2" barrel[/QUOTE]$400

It would depend if you intend to keep and use the prohib. handguns yourself , or intend to try and resell them . As you know , most people do not have a prohib. class license.....so selling them for decent prices may be difficult.....they had several prohib. handguns at the gun show here this past fall , and they could not give them away.....and some dealers will not even consider them on trade as they consider them a paper weight that no one can buy . At least the rifle can be used and sold reasonabley easy if you decided to do so....not so easy with the prohib. handguns.....

I bought a SP101 3" for $250 at a store (Used). Those are nice guns that will sell, but 12.6 guns have to be well discounted to sell, because those of us with the class have our fill, already.

It all depends on if you want them for yourself or not as you are not going to have an easy time selling them. If you think it is hard to sell hem now wait 5 to 10 years and see what it is like then.

I generally agree...except for the Model 29 which I'd say is more like $550 to $650, even as a 12.6, and the 586 I'd say is more $400 to $500.

Yeah the 44 will go, and if it had been a snub it would be even higher and would go instantly. Despite being a prohib some guns are still very much in demand (I know I'm looking for one)

Guess its supply in demand, I'll probably get a 12.6 mod 29 down the road, but since it would be for tinkering around with, I wouldn't pay typical value for a non-prohib unless some ultra rare variant.
