have ammo but no rifle. advice!

I believe norico makes a bolt action in this round that would be your best bet for accuracy
7.62 x39 out of any of the rifles in mil surplus was never intended for sub moa
Bolt action best bet

I have both a Russian sks I bought in 93 and a cz I bought a few months ago. I would say the sks might be a little more accurate, to early to tell yet. Give me a little more time with the cz. But if it were me and I can afford either, CZ hands down is better.
Just my opinion.
OR just get both.

Just got a cz and although I have not shot it yet. (just got it yesterday.)

It's much lighter and easier to maneuver then tan sks.

I would say SKS if you're looking for serious savings.

I own a CZ now.

Used to own a 1950 Russian SKS.

The CZ shoots about the same as my old SKS with a mint bore did. There is very little difference in ability which I noticed.

The CZ is very overpriced for such a simple cheaply produced rifle in my opinion. I think they are going for near a grand after taxes new!

I only bought one because I got it used for $400 lol

Honestly both will hit a man sized target out to 400 meters easily, don't expect any precision groupings from either rifle. They are loose, rough, military battle rifles. Hitting a man sized target out to 400 meters was pretty much all that was ever asked of them or designed into them.

I don't blame you for picking up that crate of ammo without a rifle lol Sounds like you got the same crate of 1440 Chinese for $230 that I got. Free shipping too? ;)

I have some SKS with irons and optics. They shoot fair.

My CZs shoot better. I would say "good".

The Norc bolt shoots a bit better, but only fair with milsurp, but pretty good with handloads.

I put a 7.62x39 chamber in a 308 rifle (a Rem788). It shoots sub 1 min with handloads and sub 2 min with milsurp.

I suggest you look for a deal on a used CZ.

If you want a good shooter in 7.62x39 for longer range you could try and find a Ruger M77 MkII in that caliber. I've got one and it shoots great! Otherwise a good threaded on barrel SKS is not bad, one of mine will hit the rams on the 500m silhouette range with iron sights but it doesn't always knock them over due to how fast the round is losing energy. With my M77 the scope runs out of adjustment at 600m.

I love my CZ , but I still am going to get an SKS . They are classic AND cheap .
Having shot both , the fit and feeling of the CZ is best for me , but the SKS is so damn cheap and its a great gun as well . Also it's part of an unforgettable era , and I can't resist that . I'll probably leave it in my safe and take the CZ with me more often then not , but I don't feel the need to take my CZ out of the safe and nuzzle its red sweetness at all , while I can see me doing that a lot with the SKS ....just sayin .
If that indicates some mental illness on my part , well , just keep it to yourselves , K ?....mmmm, K .

How about a VZ52-57, a real nice semi auto that was converted to shoot the 7.62x39 and it's better that my SKS ! That way you get a nice gun and it's a rare piece also!
