After having a torn retina repaired and waiting a month for it to heal,my doctor has given me the O.K. to shoot again.I immediatly went to the range and verified that my rifles are sighted in properly and I am off elk hunting next friday.Unfortunately that will be my only hunt though as I am undergoing more eye surgery in late October so I will not be hunting deer in November.

eye injury's are scary. great to hear you'll be able to get in some field time this fall.

good luck on your hunt and more importantly, your surgery.

Did the doc think all the shooting you do might have been a contributing factor to the torn retina?
I have heard that the cumulative effects of hard kicking rifle shooting can cause detached retina's.

Actually the doctor does not believe that the torn retina was caused by recoil from shooting. She thinks that it is just a defect as I have been having problems with my eyes before I ever started shooting the ultramags..Over the years,I have kickboxed, raced motocross, snowmobiles and jet skis and have taken some very hard impacts to the head playing hockey,so there might have been many contributing factors. However I will be doing a lot more shooting with my 22-250 and much less with the heavy magnums just in case.I will keep hunting with the magnums though.
As for my upcoming hunt it will be my only one this year and my priority is to help a friend kill his first ever elk and moose since he drew a bull moose tag and an antlerless elk tag in our hunting area.I am also trying to help two other friends kill their first elk,but if a large bull elk shows himself in front of me,I won't hesitate to take him.
