Have Elcan prices skyrocketed everywhere?

Insurance rates when shipping quickly eat into saving savings too, so your not much further ahead having a friend either.
I was kidding. Lol. But 8% on and expensive item would be worth it. I've found some retailers in Alberta will only charge me 5%. So I deal with them as much as possible.
I love the Elcan brand and products but I wonder what's their idea.
As said the DR14 were 1840$ 3 years ago. I don't believe they improved the optic beside the new battery compartment and they want 2800$ for it!
Old products MSRP typically drops slowly, not increase!
And competition is agressive. 5 years ago the DR was pretty unique but now there's the VCOG and plenty of 1-4, 1-6 and 1-8 scopes giving better value.
Maybe their strategy is to slowly drop the DR and promote the TR? Or they want to make more money on military contracts and are ready to sacrifice some of their civilian market?

Elcan is in US dollars. i know they are Canadian, but international businesses run on the US dollar regardless of home nation.
