I was just looking at elcans on a sponsors site...

Osx4's have jumped to $1682 before tax
Dr 1-4 is up to $2806

I'm not throwing mud, just wondering if they have increased this much across the country. I was going to sell my elcans, but I'm not sure that I want to. Sure wouldn't want to spend an extra grand if I change my mind.

Has anyone been watching them lately?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I think I'll up my asking price slightly. If they sell great, if not I'll keep them just knowing I won't have to spend 3k to replace the Dr.

Not just elcans, been barraged by tire kickers and low ballers lately. Never noticed this last year and I bought and sold quite a bit. Is it just me?

I think you're smoking something. They list for just under $3400 before tax. It's a TR. NOT A DR.

Admittedly I did have a guy that helped me get a better price as a returning customer, but then immediately after Reliable Gun blew them out dirt cheap too considering how new they were.

Still curious how $3500 is a "good price" for a unit that is not new. Looks to me like I would be saving $35 after tax! Lol

Um. The price is $3376 plus 13% tax which makes it $3814.88. So a fair price for a new optic.

So not sure what you're trying to prove here. Your links prove my point. Lol.

Alberta has 5% tax. So you have a small market that is not nation wide. Honestly, I hate to say it, but what happens when an Albertan goes to sell his equally used (new) Elcan? Doubt its going to be what he paid tax in. Unfortunately those of you that are taxed higher are at a distinct disadvantage in the used/preowned market, and those of us with the least tax are at an advantage. You can pretty much well guarantee that you will lose a percentage equal to the tax rate in your province the moment you 'take it off the shelf' regardless of province. Buyers know this so they will not jump on anything that isn't at least tax off unless its a rare item.

CGNer Tommeh had a TR 1/3/9x in 556 listed at $3200 last summer and sat on it until he had price dropped it down to $2850 several months later and let it sit there for a bit longer. Sadly these high priced optics are a niche market, and those who can afford generally just buy new. Your market is even smaller due to the price level you have set by not discounting the full tax rate at the minimum.

Yeah, yours aint bad considering new prices, but it will take people a while to get past the fact that DR's dont cost under $2400 anymore. I know I choke when I see that price because it was only 2 years ago I bought a brand new FDE DR 1/4x for $1880 tax in.

You are absolutely right. We in the HST market take a 8% hit right off the bat. Tough to swallow but that just how it is. That's why I'm selling it local only as I know the tax differences. I will adjust the price to at least save on the tax for someone in Ontario. Which is s nice savings on a $3400 optic.

All the best.

Cheers.

But unless something is a steal. And the owner is taking a huge hit. The item sells quickly. I've seen some pretty good deals out there lately, but I think the EE in general has been very quit lately. Maybe it's just hard times for people and firearms and optics are not a priority.

Who knows.
