I received my Ruger P345 on Tuesday from Al Flaherty's (top notch dealer IMO) but I haven't got a registration certificate yet. Is this normal practice. Makes me feel like I am not complying with the law. I also can't wait to get to the range. Any input would be great. The CFO was vague about it. I did receive paperwork with the gun stating it would be in the mail.

Thank you kindly for any help

Mike

The Registration Certificate will catch up. Don't lose sleep worrying about it.
The section that authorizes the transfer isn't the section that issues the Cert.

I lost a Certificate once, I called it in to the CFC and they mailed out a new one.

But yeah, your scenario (i.e. new gun), it'll come in the mail eventually.

Transfers are handled by your Provincial CFO, who approves then sends out a Transfer Notification and, if necessary, an up-dated ATT. You also get a prize at you 50th, 100th, and 2.000th gun.*

Registration is handled by the CFC in Miramichi. It seems they print new Registration Certificates only once per week, then they all go in the mail. This is the reason for the delay.

Technically, you are not allowed to transport your new fire-arm until that letter arrives from New Brunswick. The ATT in-variably states you must be in ‘possession’ of the Certificate, rather than being the ‘holder’ of it (a legal distinction which might otherwise let you claim that the Certificate had been issued, you just didn't have it with you).

*Not really.

Right or wrong, I have always considered the NOT (which the CFO will email to you, when requesting a STATT) the equivalent of a temporary cetrificate. If it's sufficient documentation to take the item home from the vendor, why not to/from the range.

^^ Since a true copy of the registration certificate is sufficient, might it be possible for the CFC to email a scan to be used until the paper copy arrives. I've received ATT's and "Notice of Transfer" by email several times so why not registration certificates? Perhaps worth a toll free call?

Be sure to check the plastic sections/sleeves (if any) on the box it shipped in.
Found a few behind the mailing address info etc.
Usually just a temp copy, but expect one in the mail shortly.
