Have I made a mistake? Second guessing myself now.

Quarter-bores aren't as popular as they should be in some circles. But if you want a fast, flat round for anything from predators to large door and caribou, it can't be beat.

The hornady charts still have the 243 beating it by just a little for drop.

58 grain 243 is 2 inc less drop then the 90 grain 20-06 at 300

You are spending too much time on charts and graphs again... I love .308 case cartridges, but there is no way that the .243 tops a .25/06 in any apples to apples comparison.

Try plugging in the numbers for the 75 V-Max at 3750 fps.

KZ Radius @ 4"

Maximum PBR:372 yd

Maximum PBR Zero:319 yd

Range of Maximum Height:182 yd

Energy at Maximum PBR:964.2 ft•lbs

Bullet construction aside... Cleanly harvesting deer at almost 400 yards without doping... try that with a 58 grain from the .243.

Im not shooting deer. Just merely entertaining the option of being able to if I pleased. Where my fams deer camp it, it will be a 50 yard shot max anyways! lol

Hence the light bullet choices.

I do like the sounds of the 25-06 surprisingly there is ammo locally for it. I could sound like a REALLY die hard yote guy when I say I use a 25-06 and they have to ask what it is lol.

Most would expect 22-250 or 223

The 22-250 Rem 50 gr V-MAX Superformance and the 243 Win 58 gr V-MAX Superformance are damn near identical... Seperated by .5 of an inch basically...

That makes this interesting.

Nothing rare or even uncommon about .25/06... most CT's carry ammo.

Holy Crap! Airskinning looks like the best idea since sliced toilet paper; I am trying that ASAP! :)

As far as the original question goes: less analyzing and more shooting...with any of those guns...will do you a world of good. You can't "math" a coyote to death, you gotta shoot him.

And it's a hoot to hear a newer shooter oohing and aahing over the .25-06; it's been around as a factory cartridge for 45 or 50 years, much longer as a wildcat. It was the top choice in a high-velocity round back then, and still a great choice today...plus, it's apparently become new and exotic again!

But it'll be a shame when you buy one and expect your older shooting compadres to faint with the shock of seeing it...and they just say "That's nice..." :)

Yeah, there will not be all that astonishment about a .25-06 in most circles, except for the strong conviction it may be a bit too much for coyotes. One day you may want to sell one. They make a just fine deer and antelope round for sure. I know several people using the cartridge, but I know no one using it for specifically for coyotes. The .243 gets some use, but most of my hunting acquaintances are into .22 centerfires from the .223 to the one Swift. One is experimenting with the .204, but no really definitive reviews for him at this point.
