Have my RPAL do i need to join a club

BUT, I've been reading problems about getting an ATT if you're not part of a gun club? Is it worth the hassles to save a couple hundred bucks to have problems getting an ATT if you're not a member of a handgun club?

There are no hassles without a club, there is simply no ATT without a gun club membership. You may get a short term ATT to bring it home, but then you cannot transport it anywhere else. If you plan on doing anything more than looking at your restricteds, then you need a membership.

If you want cheap shooting, then rimfire is by far your best choice.

$500??? Dressler Memorial Range in Fort St. John is less than $90 for my whole family (2 adults, 3 kids)!!!

My only complaint about it is that the big bore range only goes to 200 yards.

in ontario you do not need to belong to a club. if you buy online and the store is asking for a specifc range/club name put down the range/club you're "thinking of joining" if you have a resticted licence there's no problem in ontario. you do need however to join an approved range/club to get your att. the cfo may call you about the transfer and you just tell them you're thinking of joining or are in the process of joining the rang/club that they put down when you bought your gun online.

to have collector status you have to call cfo and they will send you out a form to fill out. (can't remember off hand what form # is, but they will know and send it to you.) all you have to do is write down a couple of different guns you want to collect and a brief history of such guns and send the form back to them. no hoops to jump through as previously stated. very easy and done in a few days including mailing of forms. collector status doesn't really give any special privilages. and when you sign the form and send it in to become a collector it says that they are able to come and check out your guns but they have to make an appointment and come when it's convenient for you. samething as when you own more than ten guns.

i've had more then ten guns for the last 10 yrs and have had my collector status since the last year. no one has ever called or come nocking.

Hey,
I live in ONtario, and my sitution is similar, I will be moving shortly as I am finishing up school. And I did originally get my RPAL to inherit guns my father had(He was a collecter and never had membership to a club). I am looking to collect as well as shoot.

I am intrested in what happens let me know !

The reason i bought this up is anywhere i look, at online stores they all require membership to club and do not even make mention of collecting.

read my last post and if you have any questions about what i wrote just pm me and i'll clarify.

ps; if you do want collector status and you write down specific guns down on the forms from the cfo. you can still buy othe brands or models. it doesn't have to be what you write down on the forms. i think the cfo just want to know you have some firearms knowledge.

you could buy and pay for a restricted but the transfer wont be completed until you have a valid range membership. it sucks, I was a member at a range in B.C and i moved to Alberta 2 months later and bought a pistol from a store here in Calgary, and they wouldn't approve the transfer till I got an Alberta membership. its a good thing the Alberta CFO's and the B.C CFO's for that matter, seem to be on the ball. I guess it might depend on the province, but that's my experience out of those 2 provinces

I know I need to join a club to get my ATT. I don't want to buy a handgun to stare at it. I want to shoot it!

My issue is the $5-600 I'll have to pay for the handgun club closest to my house.

Anyone have any suggestions for gun clubs near Toronto that have a handgun range that are REASONABLY priced?

... apply as a collector and be prepared for much grief. Be prepared to explain what is special about your gun and what makes it collectable.

Well, I'm not a collector so I haven't applied as one, but if I were I don't think I'd find being required to explain what makes the gun I am collecting collectable was "much grief." (At least, not for me. The CFO might wish he hadn't asked - "blah blah blah blah blah blah...")

Legally, no you don't have to be a member of a club, but practically, you do. You are asked to state your purpose in owning restricted firearms when you apply for the license, so you will have either declared yourself a collector or said that you intend to use it for target shooting. A collector doesn't have to shoot so he/she doesn't need access to a range, so they don't need a club membership. In this case you would ask for a short term ATT to bring a newly-acquired gun home. If you aren't a collector the CFO assumes you are going to need a club membership so you can have an approved range to shoot your restricted gun at, so they won't issue a long term ATT until they know where you are going to shoot. But you could still ask for a short term ATT to get your new gun home, and if you explain that you aren't joining a club right away because you are planning to move soon, they should issue the short term ATT.

my arugment would be simple I just go pay at the range if I join the club its cheaper but I would then have to shoot more so the reason for not join a club for me is its cheaper not too... If I pay at the range everytime I go... now I know were there is a range were you can simple just rent the guns they have there for 60 bucks a vist including use of the range till you basicly run out of ammo and you dont even need a lience to do it they have someone come with you basicly..

no "grief" what so ever. once you fill out the forms and your little essay question your good too go. never been asked anything about any of the guns i've bought. even my norinco np 58, when i added it too my collection!!!!!
