I have a few questions and maybe someone can give me some insight to help me make my choice.

what does anyone know about the Savage 111FCXP3, bolt action, synthetic stock, combo that is on the market?.... what kind of quality is the scope that comes with it?... If I were to purchase one, what caliber would you recommend??

I just yakked about this yesterday on Juniors boyfriends.
His grandpa bought him a new Savage 111 in 30-06 with some cheaper end
Bushnell on it. Sold as a package.
Less than a dozen shots later, the reticle mounted in a retaining ring did a turn
in the scope.
So instead of the top aiming at 12 o'clock, it was pointing to 1 o'clock and if you tapped
it a bit, it would move some more.
Pull the scope and put it on a rimfire or ask for some sort of store credit to use for better quality. All I can say is I'm sure glad it pooped then not out on a hunt. This new rifle doesn't have the option of sights.
Looky.

"...quality is the scope..." Hi. They're low end, but serviceable Simmons scopes.
"...what caliber..." To do what?
That Bushnell was damaged before your buddy got it.

Mine had a Simmons on it. replaced it with a 3200. but looking back now, i think the Simmons was clearer. i would buy the package and maybe hunt with it for a season and put the package scope on a rimfire.

My brother bought the non-accutrigger model in .30-06. He has used it 5 years and ran into one problem; a ring showed a bit of looseness and required tightening. The rifle shoots accurately and has taken several deer and moose for him. Is it a super-duper scope? As Sunray said, nope. But it will work. It is nice to upgrade when you get the chance, though. I prefer my Burris and leupold scopes over my much cheaper Tascos and Bushnells, but those cheaper scopes have performed well enough for mr for fifteen or twenty years..

It is a great package for the price. The scope may hold up for say 243 win for a long time, but don't expect a lot out of life on the magnums. With the money you'll save on this package you can save up for a better optic.

As for cartridge for hunting anything from a 243, 270win, 30/06 will fill many tags for you where you do your part. If you reload, you may be surprised in the accuracy potential for these gems.

The stocks on these packages are better than the older stevens mould because they are stiffer and have a bit heavier feel. I also find the clip/release system made from metal is reliable. I would recommend this package to anyone.

I have 2, one in 270 and one in 243 never had a problem with them and the only reason I could think to replace the scope was to get a higher power then the 3-9x it came with.

excelent knock around gun with good accuracy

Best package rifle around but the scope is cheap but seviceable bougth one kit in 243 for my wife 4 year ago did not change a thing on it an it shoot good 1.5 inchs with Winchester sp 100 grs, she did get a nice 8 points this year with it... JP
