Have the HK SL8 cracking issues been resolved?

Haven't heard anything on this for a while... Has HK fixed the problem?

Is there any trouble in Canada getting the receivers fixed/exchanged if they crack?

I read over on HK pro that some were drilling a small hole at the bottom of the crack, and filling it with JB weld. I wonder if that solved it.

Was this an SL8 issue or an SL8-1 (US model) issue?, they use a different mag housing/lower?? with a single stack magazine, I have never seen or sent back for warranty any Cdn model SL8...

i seem to remember one of our users here having this issue with a recent production sl8, i thought it was caused by letting the bolt fly forward with no round to strip off the mag.(i could very well be wrong there tho)

The single stack mag design of the SL8-1 is more prone to the lower receiver cracking but the SL8-4 and 5 still do crack. I have had two receivers crack on my SL8-4. As far as I know they have not resolved the cracking issue nor are they likely planning to do so. The second replacement receiver I got looked identical to the first one but I have not shot it much yet so time will tell how long it might last. My original receiver lasted about 900 rounds before it cracked and the 1st replacement receiver only lasted about 80 rounds. I would suggest buying the gun from a very reputable dealer as this will help if a new receiver is needed. Mine were replaced at no charge. The crack is caused when the boltcatch stops the bolt to hold it open after the last shot is fired. It can also crack by carelessly letting the hammer drop on the boltcatch when the gun is disassembled. After even the smallest crack develops, there is a minimal amount of flex in the receiver and the bolt will no longer stay open after the last shot. Other than that the rifle will function normaly. I suppose drilling the small hole at the end of the crack may help stop it from spreading but the bolt hold open feature after last shot still would not function. I can't see how hard it would be for HK to cure the problem BUT if they are going to discontinue the SL8 then I guess they don't care to try and would rather just replace receivers for the ones that do crack. Eventually I would think though that the supply of replacement recievers would eventually dry up. Then what?

its all crap
