Have transfers now what ?

My apologies if this has been discussed many times already but I am as posted in other threads a first time purchaser of pistols . So here goes .

I just received transfers from the B.C. CFO for 3 pistols purchased in the first week of June .

I have now just sent emails with transfer attachment to each retailer that I purchased a pistol from .

I understand that the retailer can now send my pistols to me ?

What happens after the pistols are in my possession if I want to take them to the range where I am a member .

Please explain in point form

The retailer normally does not need a copy of the Buyers Transfer papers as they get a Sellers copy, however, it has been reported lately that at least AB CFO may not be sending Sellers copies out during the 'panic'.

Once the retailer has their copy (or your copy showing the transfer has gone through) then they can ship the firearms.

You need to wait for the Registration papers for each firearm before you can take them to the range. They come from Miramichi and generally arrive 'by snail mail' 10 to 14 business days after the date on the transfer papers.

Most people copy them and keep the original at home and transport with the copy.
 
You *should* have an ATT (Authorization to Transport) restricted firearms to the range.

As of September 2, 2015, if you have restricted or prohibited firearms, you may be eligible to have conditions attached to your firearms licence for certain routine and lawful transportation purposes. To confirm if these conditions are attached to your licence or to apply by phone, call the Canadian Firearms Program at 1-800-731-4000.

I know I had mine emailed to me.

Once you have they, you take them to the range. But to and from only. No stopping at McDonald’s or for a visit at the in-laws.
 
OP if they are your first restricted's then you will be sent another PAL (the number will increase by 1 after the decimal place) and a sheet of paper with the Special Conditions (including ATT) on it.

Unless something dramatically changed, you are able to freely take them from your residence to your range whenever you want as long as they're transported unloaded and locked. Ideally, without any stops along the most direct route.. acts of god and whatnot can happen and you don't want to get in a car accident 2 towns away because you went to see a buddy before the shooting range, your gun gets picked up from the car wreck and all that, or it gets stolen out of your parked vehicle or something.

Can't really do anything else with them. If you decide to sell any of them, after the registration has fully transferred to another buyer, you need to get an ATT to transport it to the shipping facility... or if you move. Not sure beyond that.
 
Once the pistols are sent to you, you'll need to wait for the registration certificate to be mailed to you before you can take them to the range.

This statement is an overkill. Unless McDonald's is a waaaaay off the reasonably direct route to/from range/house or you having a very long party there .....
just follow the transportation rules for Rs including parts while not attending the vehicle. Better to keep your car in sight, of course.


Make sure you have your license card, certificates, the paper carrier with Conditions printed (paper and/or digital copies OK) when leaving the house with your Rs .

This idea is an invention by paranoid rule lovers. The wording can vary by province but usually says something like 'reasonably direct route'. To the best anyone can determine, no one in Canada has ever been charged for violating the conditions of an ATT.

Personally, when carrying guns to and from my range I have been known to stop at restaurants, grocery stores, malls, and the homes of family/friends for dinner. If I have too much wine I spend the night in the spare bedroom, and continue my trip the next day. Since all of these things lie more or less in between my house and my usual range, I consider all of them to be on a reasonably direct route.

These days, that is a good question that I can't answer as you are in BC, usually right away ,but these days is not usual
Regarding travel, lots of shooter travel 100's of miles to shoots , they stop for meals, sleeps, etc.
Just don't leave your gun cases where they can be seen , if you go int to eat, and don't leave them in the car at night.
If you go out of province with your pistols, than you need another ATT to ranges in that province.
For years your Att would cover all the ranges in your prov., BC, but the Feds like to screw around and make life a pita for us, so that part has change, but you can list more than your local range.
I don't shoot competitions , but know some that do and they list all their ranges that they are going to, for matches, but that will depend on your prov. CFO , as they are the ones the issue them.
Sk. and Alb. both appointed CFO's so they are not J.T. ,RCMP appointments any more.

Really interesting ! Man they sure screwed with things didn’t they ,and yet crime continues by criminals ! But that’s another topic best left for another thread !

Sorry for the question just wanting to be clear and sure on this ! If a person now has in their posssesion Registration papers/ certificate for any firearms said person would like to take to the range do you still need to wait for your upgraded RPAL with ATT to go to the range with those firearms ?

I’m looking for the law that actually states what is needed to go to the range with a restricted firearm .

So i purchased my first 2 restricted firearms. Both habe been approved and ive recieved them and the registration certificates. Will i be receiving a new RPAL in the mail with my ATT. Ive never applied for and ATT. Do i need too or will they automatically attach one to my license.
