Have you been attacked by a deer? {The deer defense thread!}

I"ve seen people get injured by dead deer! Usually by the head swinging around and hitting them in the face. Falling on antlers, and injuries from dragging/lifting/knives are very common, but don"t make for exciting reading the way a charging buck does!

Yup - Had to shoot a small buck from the hip at about 2 feet. :sniper:

I was tracking 2 sets of prints in a pretty bad snow storm through a thick hardwoods swamp. I come up on 2 deer, but could only see them from their bellies down. I let out a few grunts to see if I could figure out if they were bucks or does, when the little buck turns and runs right at me grunting the whole time.

I'm certain that he would have run me right over if I had not shot him. :eek:

Last fall I was checking my trail camera on a well beaten deer path. I hear something so i turn my head quick and its a doe and 2 big fawns about 10 yards away. The doe sees me move and lets out a big snort then takes off the way she went. For some reason the fawns kept running right down the path towards me, I'm saying WOW WOW WOW while walking backwards and one finally darts left about a foot away and the other one rubs against me then hits a good sized tree and kept running. I dropped my camera in a bit of water and almost filled my shorts lol

I was in a field stalking some deer during muzzleloader season. There were four does and one buck. Three of the does were pretty small and not worth shooting and the buck was a 3 pointer. I was hunting with open sights and by the time I got within 100 yards it was too dark for me to safely shoot. So I just stood up and was going to watch them run. They weren't anything special anyway. So the buck and two of the does run off. But two of the smaller does start running my way. The one stopped about 30 yards but the other kept coming. I raised my gun and shot when the deer was about 15 yards away. I got it in the neck and it doubled over backwards and completely bled out. I'm pretty sure if I didn't have my gun the deer would have run right over me.

On a side note: My dad once witnessed a friend of his being charged by a huge doe and after my dad's friend shot it, the deer ended up literally at his feet. There are pictures of the doe and it was pretty much the biggest I've seen.

Never a deer, but I had an elk chase me at the back of the Banff Springs Hotel early one morning on my way to work at the Golf Course, she chased me some distance and I won't forget it.

I usually step aside and let them run by, only a fool will stand in front of them to get run over. Maybe we should be asking the deer what the hunter did to the doe since she was not shot and let go???????????????.

My uncle is famous for a good laugh. My dad was telling me that my uncle Stu was huntin a buck one morning and shot one. It fell down in some thick weeds. Uncle Stu walks over to it and starts to cut its neck when it jumped up and hit him ~ somehow??? When my uncle came too he looked around for the deer and no where to be found. So he walks back to the old pick up and the deer he shot was lying dead just a couple feet away from the truck. Funny part is ... the deer didn't have a bullet wound, just a deep knife slash in the neck. :) Either Uncle Stu wasn't that great of a shot, or out their walks one super pissed off buck. HAHA
