Hunting near Gracefield QC a number of years ago. My turn to sit while others pushed out the bush.
I heard Brian put one up and I felt it was going to cross the logging road to the left of me, so hot footed over that way, only to hear Larry chase it back onto it's original course, where I used to be.
Ran back, just in time to see it leap the road, so I snapped a shot at it. I knew I had hit it, but it was down in the brush and small $hit that grew beside the old logging road. I pushed my way into the tag and there was a nice buck with a pretty good rack, trying to get up. I had shot high and taken out the back bone, but the front end was still working.
He gave a thrash of his head as I was stepping over his hind quarters and the tips caught my hunting vest and jacket, ripping them before I could finish him.
I was a little shook at that and when I put the finishing shot into him, I made the mistake of shooting him in the head. There went the skull and any hope of a good antler mount.
