Bump & update...

I no longer put trail cams out on the property we have access to for deer hunting. No cams, no theft... But also no pics of deer on the property, sigh... We know they are there, so we just leave it at that now.

The local hood rat that was a problem seems to have moved on, either incarcerated again or who the (insert explicative) cares.

Now, here's hoping our stands are all okay... Will be checking after the first frost.

Cheers
Jay

Last fall some A**hole stole the cards out of three of my cameras... I had the cameras cable-locked to a tree, but I didn't have the doors locked down. They were there the last day of moose season, and gone a week later at the start of the deer hunt. Probably just as well I didn't catch him in the act... it would be stupid to spend 25 yrs in jail over a $20 sd card.

Luckily no issues with losing cameras or vandalism, often have found signs of people hunting my property without permission. (Trail cam pics of hunters, tracks, brush and small trees cut for shooting lanes) Unfortunately I work away most of the time and have a hard time keeping an eye on it. Even left a sign up at the entrance with my name and phone # in case someone wanted to call for permission to hunt and have never received a call.

I am lucky enough to have been granted permission to 4 properties int he same general area to hunt, nothing stolen but lots of garbage left behind. The owner has had issues with people just dumping garbage all over the place. AND they trespass all the time. It can all go away if the owner gets fed up and decides that it is just too much trouble.

you can always justify it by saying you are a pair of eyes watching for trespassers and dumpsters...

I sold my property that i had down in merrickville. I am planing to move out west and wanted the down payment for a house that got sold out from underneath me. Sure miss hunting thou, maybe in a couple years I will be at it again. I never once had problems on my property and my cams never picked up trespassers. must of had a good spot.

Got my window smashed up Chilliwack River just before the lake in Dec 2018. I made a thread on it when it happened, turns out it's commonplace up there. ####ers stole my bag of clothes and empty gun case, they couldn't even be bothered enough to open the door, just took what was on the front seat and in the glove box.

Worst part they got my Sony Handycam I was going to use to start filming some hunts,
best part was they didn't get to the trunk so they missed the shotgun in there.

We still deal with trespassers on a regular basis on the land I have permission to hunt. The land owner has some walking trails and a kids park and snack bar, charges people a small fee to use it and he makes some pocket cash and it keeps him busy. This year with Covid he has shut down, more trespassers than ever now, at least two or three times a week. They ALL get caught as I have put a cell cam inside the gate, catches the bastards every time! Landowner goes to the gate and waits for them to come out, he says $10 per person or I call the cops and you get charged with trespassing, most pay, some argue, even had a physical altercation there earlier this summer. I find it unbelievable that people just hop a gate that has "NO TRESPASSING" signs on it and then get upset when they are caught! I told him to just roll up on their car and cut the valve stem off two of their tires and leave, that will teach the buggers.

Own several wood lots in the area where I'm from;
-I've had people tell me that "my name" or "one of my parents names" gave them permission to hunt/cut firewood on the land then told to leave the property because I didn't have permission to be there. It has even gotten to the point where I have to show ID to prove I am the land owner and have granted no such permission.
-People complain that the ditches are too high and someone could roll a fourwheeler trying to go around the gate.
-People get a moose license and TELL you are hunting your land or leave signs claiming your property for that purpose.
-People demand reparations for damaged equipment while illegally cutting roads, trails, shooting lanes makeshift camps/hunting blinds.
-Notes left claiming if they have to tear down the "No Trespassing" sign one more time there is going to be problems.

My favorite was when we had a lot surveyed and a road cut and found 2 moose blinds we contacted the guys we though owned them so they could remove them which they denied ownership of; so we cut them down and hauled them away only for DNR to show up inquiring about destruction of property filed by these guys.

In general most of our trespassing/illegal activity come from people who know just enough information about the property to scare off other people trespassing; the kicker... the other side of the road these lots butt against is all uncut crown land.
