You must dissassemble everything. Boiling in TSP works well as a degreaser.
If you don't remove the barrel, really boil the #### out of the degreasing setup. otherwise, the high temps of the bluing tank may bring oils out from the barrel threads, and wreck your bluing near the joint.
I got away with it on a '92 Winchester.
The '94 that I did, I separated the barrel.
