Have you ever bought a black or green rifle based on hype and were disappointed?

Building off of Hori's thread in the handgun forum, I thought perhaps some folks here have invested in black or green rifles only to be let down? Spill the beans guys, show us your lemons!? :kickInTheNuts:

Valmet M78. Finally chased one down after several years and sold it after a couple of disappointing trips to the range. Not very accurate, not terribly reliable, poor sights, no way to mount a scope, bipod was goofy etc.

Nope. I relied on the opinions of trusted sources. How are you guys missing this simple point? It's not hard to do kids.

The original TAVOR Tar 21. I got one when it first came one. Didn't like the accuracy and sold it to get a 14.3" Swissarms Carbine which I will have to surrender to the rapist government.

I bought a bcl 308 semi auto thinking I would replace my 7mm-08 700 sps hunting rifle but there were just too many small things that make a nice, smooth bolt rifle hard to beat, walking or stalking.

To be fair, the bcl wasn't a lemon, I put 2 boxes thru it before selling and it cycled and functioned flawlessly, just wasn't what I was hoping it would be

Nice warm wood stock to plant a cheek on when its cold is nice, same with the fore end and fingers, no sharp pointed corners to snag on stuff, a nice quiet bolt throw when you need to cycle a round and not be heard 1/2 mile away when you slam the semi auto bolt home.

The bolt rifle also handled nicer with its smooth lower section with no mag protruding, I ended up replacing the sps with a 90's production bdl mountain and couldn't be happier.

Actually I bought a Ruger 1022 and tricked I out with an archangel, g36kit (so it sorta qualifies) ..I ended up trading it for a SxS shotgun because I didn't like how fake it was.

Robinson Arms XCR. Front heavy, quad rail ate skin like a mag dump. Jammed a lot. Weaponized brass upon ejection.

Was tempted to try the keymod version at some point but couldn't get past the experience of the first one. Or the price.

Tis only a .22... but the GSG-15 / 16....

Taking them down to properly clean them involves voiding your warranty, the BCG is some kinda zinc alloy clamshell held together by like 8 steel torx screws, there are more torx screws holding the bolt together, all ready to strip, start backing out, and sheer off.

Probably get crucified for this one. AR-15's. 2 different kinds, one had to get the barrel replaced right away because of poor accuracy (under warranty). The other stopped cycling after about 200 rounds, BCG replaced under warranty. These weren't chinese norincos either, 2 reputable brands. Honestly from what you would read from everyone on here they are 1 MOA guns right out of the box and the best guns since sliced bread. Accuracy is on par with any other semi .223/5.56 I have shot, honestly I wish I hadn't sold my X95 it had the same accuracy as the AR's using bulk ammo. So in summary maybe a high end AR won't give you any problems and maybe better accuracy but don't expect run of the mill $1-2k AR's that don't need maintenance, upgrading, tinkering or repair. Oh and the regret is that I have these useless AR's that are now prohibited.

This one surprised me. I always liked the concept of these rifles but I've never shot one.

Famae SG 540-2 in .308. What a dog, overall. I wanted to love thos pseudo FAL replacement, but couldn't get past the horrible 4 MOA accuracy (or worse, ammo dependant). Recoil was also excessive due to the rifle's otherwise welcome light weight for a battle rifle. Efforts to keep the 308 Famae lightweight were the rifle's ultimate downfall if my theory is correct. The .308 Famae uses the exact same receiver as the much softer-shooting 5.56mm SG 540. That receiver is fabricated from a relatively light gauge of sheet steel, which I believe is prone to AKM-style flexing when the .308 weapon is fired. I believe this to be the culprit behind the SG 540-2's lacklustre accuracy. It is worth noting that the Swiss employed a much thicker gauge of sheet steel for the Receiver of the successor rifle, the SIG 550 (despite it being only 5.56mm calibre). As a point of comparative interest, my SG 540 and 543 were both 2 MOA rifles with the thin receiver steel...

Well, that breaks my heart about wanting one

keltec su16

liked to jam, weird take down, not accurate, felt like a toy, plastic was easily marred

Agreed, I still have a plr16. Although it does what it was indentured to do.. I could have nicer things to say about it.

Oh that asessment of the XCR is about spot on perfect from my experience :D
I laughed out loud and got funny looks when I read the "Weaponized brass upon ejection" because it is SO true, that thing would launch brass on the suppressed setting (lowest), 30+ feet.

For me it was the second gen T97. As others have said about other rifles, this was not actually a lemon, I just could not make myself like a bull pup firearm. Other than some minor issues with getting some mags to fit and stovepipes if trying to run a brass catcher, it was absolutely reliable. Zero issues without the brass catcher with all ammo I tried. I just did not like the balance and the bolt slamming around right under my ear .

Would this be a common complaint with all bullpups? Would the Tavor X95 be in the same boat?
