Have you ever bought a black or green rifle based on hype and were disappointed?

Not foolish at all. I'm personally a big fan of the platform. Definitely better with an aluminum lower though...

I would have been a fan of it, but I just couldn't get past the feel of it, I prefer metal lowers (AR, XCR....RIP), that being said I'm not against polymer on rifles, I had an SL8 with the SPUHR ACR stock and liked that, something just felt wrong about the ACR.

Screw will rattle themselves loose.

Sweeping up brass I found a small torx screw on the floor, front sight screw.

Fore-end gets loose, charging handle gets loose.

Yes, I did use loctite and the fore-and and charging handle still got loose

It is somewhat heavy for what it is or not balanced well.

For me it's two guns and one optic. The Valmet and the G36. They're not bad guns they're just got worth the premium price tags. The optic is the Hensolt duel optic carry handle for the G36. Waist of money! Just get the flat rail and put your own optic on it.

Mine is not so much hype based, but function based. I got the MRA Renegade Gen 1, thinking I can get used to a straight pull action, and assumed the look and feel of it would far outweigh the manual action. I think if there is any hype to which I succumbed it is thinking I can just treat it like an AR (which I have never owned). Turns out I just have been too accustomed to my semi autos and while I do have a traditional bolt action .223 precision rifle, I knew what I was getting and its application; the Renegade left me a feeling of "meh".

In my experience with the x95 it's definitly not a gentle recoil impulse, world blurs a bit after first shot but not painful, just a violent action

Interesting. What type of ammo were you shooting? Or is that just your overall impression? I find my X95 to be great with 62 grain X Tac Green Tip PMC, but that’s only shooting one type so far.

after how many rounds? mines really low count so far, just got it. but so far had a great experiance with it. i expected a bag a poo, because take downs typically leave me wanting a lot more. but really happy so far.

The fun part of the Renegade is using a 10.5 or 12.5 barrel with a brake and make yourself a fun little fireball thrower. Beyond that it's a cope gun even though I quite like mine.

If I remember correctly it was just regular .223 american eagle bulk, I'm a lefty but was shooting it right handed so thay could factor in but the eotech reticle practically disappeared every time I fired, up and out of the window

Armalite AR180B

My example had the worst accuracy of any semi I've ever owned. Dinner plate sized group no matter what ammo was tried. The stock trigger was crap, so replaced it with an Timney AR15 unit, still no joy... May have been the counterbored muzzle arrangement they had, but I'll never know. Glad I was able to sell it when I did.

Well, that breaks my heart about wanting one

If it makes you feel any better, my experience is the exact opposite. Mine has an action smooth like butter. The recoil is more than managable, and with decent glass it's easily hitting 2moa. I laod my own ammo, so your milage may vary. I totally trust Bartok, though, and will say the QC in these DID vary, but mine is an absolute dream of a rifle, and she's never failed me once, except when shooting ####ty chinese 308, it often doesn't hammer hard enough to actually fire (not a problem with any other ammo I've ever used)

I was shooting with my son in the bush and the forend rattled loose. No big deal, few more rounds and we'll be done. I usually have allen wrenches on me but not this time. As I'm packing up the takedown bag I just by chance looked at the gravel and I'm staring right at the rear sight. So damn lucky I found it. Would never have had a clue when/where it fell off.

I still really enjoy this gun though. Got a great deal on it and it's stepping in as my wife's gun until my Scorpion is done serving its time-out.

Heh been trying to track one down for a reasonable price. Good seeing people's response.
I have been told by many that they are not the happiest camper.
Caliber change handle looseness etc.

Some foolish side of me is still seeking for one

It's not a bad platform at all, there were some QC issues but I think it got more internet hate than it deserved.

Mine has been great. Running a lighter barrel and an RPM handguard changes the handling considerably as well albeit at a cost to accuracy when hot.

Famae SG 540-2 in .308. What a dog, overall. I wanted to love thos pseudo FAL replacement, but couldn't get past the horrible 4 MOA accuracy (or worse, ammo dependant). Recoil was also excessive due to the rifle's otherwise welcome light weight for a battle rifle. Efforts to keep the 308 Famae lightweight were the rifle's ultimate downfall if my theory is correct. The .308 Famae uses the exact same receiver as the much softer-shooting 5.56mm SG 540. That receiver is fabricated from a relatively light gauge of sheet steel, which I believe is prone to AKM-style flexing when the .308 weapon is fired. I believe this to be the culprit behind the SG 540-2's lacklustre accuracy. It is worth noting that the Swiss employed a much thicker gauge of sheet steel for the Receiver of the successor rifle, the SIG 550 (despite it being only 5.56mm calibre). As a point of comparative interest, my SG 540 and 543 were both 2 MOA rifles with the thin receiver steel...

Me too. I just don't enjoy shooting it.
