Have you ever broken a good modern scope?

had a bushnell firefly stop holding zero on a brno 375h$h ,sent in and they sent a newer version, a leupold vx111 1.5x5 sent back in off my ruger number 1 416 rigby, had to send back to states as canada woud not warrenty,in all fairness my brother shot the rigby and got a detached retina.. funny thing we put a weaver scope on it and it held together.

Necro thread. I had a Vortex Diamondback last 15 shots on a 375 Ruger. The reticle turned 15*. No lead sled, just shoulder. I was shooting standing offhand when it died.

I've had some japanese made Bushnell elites that were hunted vigorously and had the scars to show it. They all function fine - even one that was installed by someone who was still learning and had the rings torqued down so tight that the tube was kinked. The power setting kind of felt a hitch as it passed through that ring but worked just fine anyway. Bulletproof in my experience!

I've also had some great experience with Leupold optics.

I have seen some Vortex scopes fail - once out of the box. But...You asked about a "good" modern scope so I guess the answer is no. I haven't seen one fail.

None. Never busted a scope, ever. I put a Tasco on a .375 and it survived the first box until it was replaced with a Zeiss. I used a Simmons on a .300 Weatherby and it was fine. My beater .303 and old Model 70 in .30-06 wore Optex scopes for over 20 years - those were knock offs of Tascos and they survived.

I've used Bushnell Elites, Nikon Monarchs, Vortex Vipers, Zeiss Conquests, Leupold VX3s, Burris Fullfields, etc and not one has ever failed. Hell I've even got a $79.99 Scorpion on a rimfire and its been fine.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

I had a Zeiss Terra that didn't last 3 months on my K31, it shook the cross hairs. Sent in for warranty, was told it would take up to 9 months from Zeiss, so I bought another scope and was 'grateful' I had a new scope sent back from Zeiss within 3 months. It now sits on my sons 7.62 CZ, it seems to be able to handle that no recoil rifle.

Only one for me. It was a Bushnell and totally my fault. Rifle in a rest toppled off the table and landed scope down. Objective tube was canted downward and dented pretty good. Reticle was still good, but had a lot of built in MOA. I haven't had any other optics failures- Bushnell, Nikon, Hawke, Vortex.

I purchased two old steel Weavers that had dents on the front ring. A 4x Challenger and a 10x Micro Track. Zero issues with each. I only physically dropped one Leupold mounted on FN Mauser. Three foot drop to concrete. A V3 1.75-6. Had one ugly mark on the scope body. But retained zero.

I have had fairly good luck with the 4200 Bushnell's. I have three 3x9 4200 & 1 3x9 Elite on various rifles that have been flawless and a 2x7 3200 on a 444 that also never given me an issue. The 444 locked up another scope that was mounted on it previously in 20 rounds.

To be fair I did have a 4200 2.5x10, 50 mm. that fogged up on me but was replaced by Bushnell very quickly under warranty.

My experience has been the same... Have four 3500 Elites mounted on different rifles. All faultless

I can’t be arsed to go into specifics but I’ve had to use the Vortex Warranty thrice.
Won’t own another Vortex optic again.
Never had any issues with Leupold scopes.

Where’s the member with the photo of the leupold that’s broken in half, wasn’t it gatehouse? The only failure I’ve had that wasn’t my fault was one of those graphite scopes that bushnell made for a while. It held zero but would get blurry when the magnification was turned up.
But that being said, compared to many of the guys on here I hardly shoot. I doubt I’ve shot 1000 rounds of centrefire in the last year :( . I’ve got a VXIII on my 375 Ruger that hasn’t failed. Only put a few hundred rounds threw it though.

Leupold, faulty right out of the box and shotty repair service. Out the door it went. Never ever anything Leupold again.

I know it's a necro thread and the dollar value of $300 doesn't exactly lend itself to "good" scope. That being said, I've sent multiple scopes back for repairs (Leupold, Vortex, Burris) and what matters most is how the warranty service and customer relations go.

Vortex was by far the best experience, sent me overnight shipping labels, rebuilt my scope (Razor AMG) and had it back in a week.

Leupold was the worst; Sent it (VX-3) in for some lens issues, it came back even worse after 6 weeks. Sent it back again, got it rebuilt, took another 4 weeks and promptly sold it when it was returned. Like mentioned above, I will never own another Leupold product. They are long past their prime and sat on their designs for far too long while others innovated. They are slowly catching back up with the Mark 5's but they mostly rely on the word of mouth of every Fudd hunter out there who bought one in 1980 and doesn't shoot more than 10 rounds of 30-06 per year
