So...I'm in the backyard today and I see a common Garter snake. As I watch it slither away, I think to my self, how would it taste?? Has anyone tried them? if so, how did you prepare it?
Never even considered trying a common garter (gardener) snake. I'm not even sure they are edible ... the ones around here seem to stink something awful when they are alive - and I haven't been that hungry to want to try one.
Yes, I've had massaga rattler and water snake. Taste like any other reptile.

I ate some rattlesnake about 20 years ago when I was a kid. More ... just to try and glad I didn't have to do it.

It's how you choose the fare then how you prepare it that matters. Same as shooting-shot placement and bullet construction are more important. Some people skin a beaver and throw it in the freezer without gutting(wrong) but done right cooked/smoked slowly on the bbq comes out like deep fried turkey-the dark meat. Skunk was delicous marinated then thrown in the CROCK POT w/potatos and onions etc. like a beef ou jous(getting to the meat is very tricky). I tried frying a stinky old male Ground hog- should have used the CROCK POT! But, like I said "choose the fare". That Ground hog would have been like a White tail buck in the rut, pissing on himself, secreting ooze, running 'till his muscles are loaded with toxins to the point of dying from exhaustion. You can pretend to enjoy that while your family pushes their plate away. Oh yeah, Magpie taste like Goose. Joel.
