Have you ever found a gun in the bush?

I found a Ruger Mk. I in the woods when I was about 16 or so. Looked like it had angry ### with a hammer, though, and my idiot friend tossed it into the river. Not like it was ever going to work again, anyway.

I left an 870 Wingmaster in the bush for a week... we were unpacking at the landing, hauling gear from a week long remote portage hunt... there was a 30 foot rise from the water to the road way, so we were carrying things up the slope and setting them down for loading into the truck. The Wingmaster was in a camo case and was laid in the grass at the side of the road... everything got loaded and off we went... a week later I was packing for a duck hunt and couldn't find the gun... CRAP! I knew right away what had happened... it was a four hour round trip to go back and check for it... but off we went... and low and behold... it was still laying there... a smidge of surface rust that came right off... hunted with it for years afterward.

I just found my savage .17hmr that I left in the bush yesterday. It was in it's camo soft case no more than 10ft off a well travelled road in my neck of the woods. Couldn't even describe how happy I was when I went back looking for it after I realized it was missing

My Dad and his cousin found an old flintlock rifle in the bush not far from the old farm when he was a kid. I remember him telling me the story. I think his cousin kept the gun, no idea what ever happened to it. that was probably 70 years ago now. haha

20 years ago one of my cousins were tearing down a old farm house and found a sportized lee enfeild. He gave it to me and its still in my dads gun safe.

My dad and I found an old 30-30 lever action years ago driving down the highway near our house..was hunting season so we assumed it felloutta or off the back of someones truck box...had a few dings in the barrel and the forend was scratched up a bit from the asphalt but other wise it was in good working condition..guessing someone was pissed when they got wherever they were going..since then ive found a lot of stuff on the roads and streets...always on the lookout for odd shaped objects on the road...up to 6 cell phones...a plain white envelope with 680 bucks cash in it laying on Jasper Ave ...a few daytimers, hammers and crow bars..you name it ive found it..

Was in some ungodly part of Northern ontario that was a 3 day quad trip in to, over rivers, through swamps etc. We thought that would be the way to go moose hunting (have since learned our lesson)... We had never seen any sign of people back there, never any tracks never anything. As we were setting camp one of the last times we went there we found a Remington 760 in 300 savage in a hard case. It was a real noodle scratcher. Case had a name, address and phone number in it. Apparently not current. We seriously tried tracking the guy down, showing up at the address (it was on the way homeish), some serious google searching etc and couldn't find hide nor hair of the guy. Sits in a friends safe to this day. He used it a few times, and now uses it as a generic backup for deer camp in case anyone needs it.

When I was a kid, I found a Parker Hale with a five round mag and four different kinds of ammo in the mag, and homemade sling attached. It was rusty, but I got it working with some elbow grease and WD-40. Might have been there a few days, but no more...

About 35 yrs. ago found a 12 gua. 870 wingmaster leaning against a cedar tree while rabbit hunting, looked like it had bee there for a couple of years, took it to the OPP and they returned it to me a couple of months later saying they had no reports of a lost gun or any way of finding an owner. Also found a .410 remington express at an abandoned tent camp site during moose season about 30 yrs. ago, this was about 35 miles from the nearest town so no way to trace any owner, my grandson now enjoys that one.

nice that they gave it back

Not in the bush but my wife found the barrel and action of an old Cooey .22 bolt action single shot in the Ottawa River during a low water period. It was all rusted and crudded up but when cleaned up it still fired.

A couple years ago my dad was given a Cooey 64B that had apparently been found in a beaver dam. Amazingly the bore and internals were in excellent shape all though the outside is pitted pretty badly. Stock needed some work but is functional. It was missing the mag, a screw and I think he had to replace a spring that had rusted but it works now.

Of all the weird things I've found on the road, the doghouse sitting square and proud on the centre white line takes the prize. No dog, just his snoopy dog house.

FWIW, my father told me about a guy who found a P'14 Enfield .303 leaning against a fence post. He figured a hunter had leaned it against something to bend down a clean a deer, dragged the deer out in the dark but couldn't find the rifle when he went back.

Yup.

KA-CHING! That looks like a Hudson Bay Trade Musket. Or at least the snakey sideplate does.

If the traing area counts then i founda browning hi power and a c8 in a creek while on a recc patrol. Over Seas finding fire arms was a daily occurrence so I won't bore you guys with that.
