While I do collect the SMLE, Lee-Enfield and Ross rifles when one presents itself for a reasonable price, my first love is the Swedish Mauser rifle, more specifically the wonderfully accurate FSR Target rifles.
The majority of these were privately owned rifles, rifles given as prizes for shooting, and Military and Civilian Club rifles. While these are still in Military configuration but have the addition of target sights, the rifles can easily be returned to original condition by simply the use of a screw driver to remove the sights and other accessories. In other words, they can not be cut down, "bubbaed' or severely modified but must be able to be easily returned to military specifications in time of emergency.
Many of these rifles have had the Military "condition stock disk" removed when sold or loaned to the Club or Civilian population, so the owners then put silver ownership disks in the vacant holes, or covered these holes with plaques when put up for shooting prizes.
To sell, for example, a rifle once belonging to the famous Swedish race car driver, Erik Lundgren, or a rifle that was a Home Guard Prize Rifle for a certain year or event, and then try to find another one that was the same to replace it would be almost impossible. Many of these rifles are "one of a kind" rifles.
Another reason is financial. I might be able to make a bit of a profit by selling my present rifles, but to replace them with the same quality rifles would cost me a heck of a lot more that I could get for them. The milsurp market is drying up, and many of my rifles are simply not available any more.
So my answer is "NO." I would not consider selling off my Milsurp collection and starting over again.
