i bot a spray painted (glossy black) FNC1 bayo and ceremony frog recently and im curious whether painting the bayo was done by the military or by an individual....has anyone seen one like this before in the canadian forces or even in the cadets?
have you seen spray painted FNC1 bayonet?

Is it a C1 Bayonet or an FNC bayonet? I'm confused. Personally, I wouldn't do anything to it without knowing for sure what the hell it is and where it came from.

thanks guys for your input....its positively a canadian, for a FN C1A1, it does have the canadian arsenal marking and 1959, no other marking.
maybe tracing the frog could tell us something , on the back of this white vinyl frog says HOBSON & SONS (LONDON) LTD, being vinyl indicates that its not old but based on a 1888 british pattern, canada also used this pattern . i looked it up on the internet and it an apparel maker, been around for over 100 years.
so whats a british made frog doing in canada? and could a unit in canada decided to spray paint (are they allowed) or did this bayo been to UK and back?

HEY LOOK!!! I just became a big mouth.
We had guys in the military try easy off oven cleaner to clean their rifles and it works real good.
Takes the finish right off and the rifle has to be sent to third line.

I just removed black paint off an Enfield yesterday, so heres what I did: warm up an area with a propane torch and then buff lightly with some steel wool. It won't hurt the finish.curtton said:

Steel wool won't hurt the parkerizing. You are only scrubbing hard enough to drag the paint off it. If steel wool would strip the finish off a gun, then the finish is pretty useless anyway.
One caution on the propane torch thing...don't overheat the area with the spring, as it will lose it's strength.

ebay: canadian C1 (L1A1) SLR 1958 bayonet
just when i was ready to remove the black paint from my C1 bayo..... heres comes a listing on ebay from australia of a canadian bayo, painted all in black, even the blade , as you know the C1 blade is made of a stainless metal ..... i sent an email asking for more info on that bayo.

Hard to say whether thats paint or preservative. They were certainly not that colour or condition when I was issued them.
I wonder if that auction will last to its conclusion...ebay has a hate on for assault rifle parts and accessories. I've known guys who had canvas pouches removed from the ebay listings cause they were for a SMG

got a reply from the aussy who has a C1 bayo on ebay, he said he doesnt know anything about it cos he just bot it from a gunshow in australia, he did say it is painted black and shipping to BC is gonna be US$23, thats too expensive to rescue im afraid.

i had a spray can of CIRCA 1850 furniture stripper so i used it , i first tested a small section on the back of the scab and the result was good.
so today i did the rest of the bayo and scab, i had to apply 3x to the scab and 5x to the bayo , each time after spraying i waited a few minutes and then wiped off old paint with paper towels.
when all the paint was removed i was surprised that under the paint there still pretty good parkerized finish.
