Mike, the 30BR is definitely a short range cartridge. The 125 bullets lose their steam pretty quick. Lots of drag, poor BC.
Some of the best form factor bullets that aren't too punishing are in the heavy 6.5 and 7mm range. If you can get a 115 (6mm) Berger/DTAC to fly straight, it will give up very little to a 6.5
243, 6XC, 6X47 Lapua, or even a 6 Dasher will get them going fast enough to be a serious 1000M contender.
In my mind, the 6BR is the ultimate do everything cartridge though...
