Having a firearms license and travelling

Hi, I am interested in getting a firearms license in the near future, and I was wondering if having one on my record would 'count against me' in any way, ie. if I'm traveling and they swipe my passport and see that I have a firearms license, or if the police stop me for speeding or something ... what about background checks for jobs, etc.

I really want to get a license, but there is such a stigma to owning firearms and since it's only for 'sporting' reasons, I want to make sure that the pros outweigh the cons. Thanks!
 
the police will be able to see if you have a pal. not sure on the border I have crossed to the us a couple times since having my licence and nothing was said. background checks for jobs will show nothing about a firearms licence
 
Luckily for you, two negatives equal a positive.

A PAL + a Liberal Party of Canada membership card = a state of enlightened liberalism.
 
In the states, I use it almost exclusively as identification. Half the time when they won't take a "funny looking driver's licence" they will take a federally issued photo id complete with reference check.
 
Having a firearms license won't affect your travel or job opportunities at all. Firearms are a tool and do not make you a criminal. You won't be blacklisted and branded as a degenerate and a criminal because you choose to obey the law and legally enjoy your hobbies.
 
There are actually concrete social benefits to being a firearms owner.

Your boss and your employer's V.P. of HR will know your first name.

All of the talk at the water cooler will be about you.

Sounds true, that is why I don't say anything about being a firearms owner.

BTW, I live in Bantario and work in Toronto.

i have a PAL with restricted and just got in to work in one of the companies known for having one of the most extensive background checks
so i don;t think it will affect your empoyment chances or cause you any trouble when crossing he border
i actually visit the US often and next time ill try open carry as well

Oddly enuff I shot with many of my co-workers. The V.P. my boss reports to shoots alot of skeet and I have gone with the two of them many times. I also have gotten both of them very interested in handguns and the last IPSC match I was in both showed up to see what it was all about. Just about all my co-workers have been invited to the range and many have gone.

I make no secret of my ownership to family, friends and co-workers.
 
When I was taking my ATT course (my range requires it before they will issue a LTATT on your behalf), one of the girls in my class said that when she goes to the US, the US customs agent CAN see that you have a gun license and she has been asked by them if she is carrying any restricted firearms, or if she is going down to purchase any!

i also assume that on return that canada customs can also see that you have an rpal...
