I have been reloading 410 for a couple of weeks now and still have a problems with the load. I have a browning 625 which had a trigger job to fire 410. It works great with factory ammo. But not so good with my 410 reloads. I started with mec # 11 bushing in a 600 junior. I'm running now a 12 and they are still too light. I measured my shot and it's .5 oz. I measured the powder and it's dropping 12.2 grains. The recipe calls for 12 in an aa hull with Winchester wad and primer. I noticed that the shot is sitting to low in the hall before the crimp. I was wondering if anyone has ran into this problem? Has anyone used a 12a or 13 bushing? Will the pressures be safe?

How much wad pressure are you applying? Is there a problem with crimping? If the recipe calls for 12 grains then use 12 grains.

What isnt working? Not getting good breaks? Not shooting it at all?

Sorry might need a bit more info to help thats all.

I have planed on doing that. I pick up winchester 296 which I have tested with some friends reloads. And it worked well. I was just hoping I could figure this issue. I really have not found any one having these issues. I'm hoping it's just a bad batch. But I must say I probably wont buy it again. It's too bad because alliant powders have been good in my other gauges. thanks for the reply.

there may not be a problem with the powder at all. Don't forget the inertia block relies on enough pressure to reset it and 410 Alliant may just not be able to give the pressure it requires within a safe load. It sounds like your a on the right track though with trying out different powders, let us know how it works

Ok guys did some playing around with powders these past weekends and this is what I came up with. I tried Winchester 296 powder with a 12a bushing dropping 14.1 grains of powder. A little light since the recipe called for 15.3. All in all it worked. Not giving up with that 410 powder I went back To the last recipe. 12.2 grains but I put a little more shot .53 oz. And it worked. Since skeet regulations requires no more than 1/2 oz I went back and tried one more thing. A deeper crimp. Although the crimp that I was using was good. I went a little deeper. It caved in a little but held the shot in place. Surprising enough it worked. I have now upgraded to a mec grabber. As soon as i get a chance to try it. I'll post an update with the 410 recipe and the grabber reloader. Once again thanks to everyone who has commented.

I use alliant in everything but the 410. Been using 296 since I can remember and never an issue. The only thing I was wondering is if you are using old style AA hulls, old style cannot use the HS wads even though winchester and claybuster originally sold them as if they do but that changed.
That will cause the shot to be low. As long as the wad is set the wad pressure does nothing and really is only important for old school felt not today's modern wads.
I have to use downrange wads in old style AA hulls. I probally still reload 2500 410 a year.
