hey all. i bought a used 550b from a local shop. i price was beyond incredible, i got with it the reloaded, .38 super dies. i media/case separator, a digital scale, and a tumbler. my issue is that the scale, using a 700 gr weight is reading 706.8 consistently. i know i could just subtract that when reloading but iwould rather not have to. i called dillon twice now, the first time they told me to make sure that there was no wind blowing across the face of the scale, check he weight on another scale, and try switching plugs as the voltage might fluctuate at that spot. i did all of this and even brought it back to the shop to have the guys check it out. the came up with the same problem as me. today i called dillon again and they told me that the scale is only warrantied for a year. the guy told me that the scale i had was at least 4 years old. so, what it came down to was that i could send the old scale in, and they send me a new one for a cheap price of 85 dollars.

so im fine with that, i can buy a new hornady scale for cheaper.

my problem is that i bought this product for its exceptional warranty. i have heard to many good things about their products and service but now im feeling like its not working for me when i need it. should i call them back in a bit and not tell them that i bought it used? usually i would hear a story about how the guy called them and they were more than happy to send a new scale out for the price of shipping. does this not happen or did i miss understand all those stories that i have heard? i dont know what to do guys. any help would be great. let me know what i should or should not say when talking to them or if i should just not be bothered and buy the hornady scale for 65 bucks instead.

sorry for the ramble.

thanks in advance, nate

Its a used electronic device with a one year warranty why would you assume that there is warranty on it... If the scale is NFG the place you got it from should be helping you not Dillon....

The press has a lifetime warranty and you should have no problem getting free replacement parts for it, I have never read any where on here about anyone getting a new scale from Dillon lots of stuff about free parts for a press under warranty...:D

Dillion spells out the warranty on their electronic items..
Run your 2 yr old scale over with the car.. Sorry...
Run your 2 yr old 550b over with the car... What do you need ...

probably the calibration weight?

May be I'm too nieve but 700 grn's of calibrating make no sense
And after 700 grn's , the mere weight of .006 means nothing
But anyway I don't want the issue to be fifteen pages long
I use 10 gr and 50 gr to cross check with other scales I own and it's too good if you use the reloading bullets to cross check

haha ok thanks guys. i was under the impression that ALL there stuff was under a life time warranty. im not up set or anything, it was just a simple misunderstanding on my part.
the 700 gr weight was a check weight, i measured it on several other scales and they all read 700 gr's exactly. next i tried the calibration set up part. it read error every single time i tried to recalibrate it. thanks a lot for the help, i think im off to buy that hornady one.

anybody want a cheap used dillon scale:D? all you have to do is minus 6.8 gr's from each load:D(yeah i know that sounds easy, but i suck at math, and being new at this, im not risking anything to my math skills)

it is not as simple as that. Lets see - off by almost 7 g at 700...
Scale could be off by 4g at 400gr and 1 gr at 100
Maybe off by 1% (get the idea?)

1% is not much. Check weigh the scale with 50 grain weight.....probably pretty close as most scales +/- 1% is nothing

You should spend $65 on a math text - no offence..............
