Having trouble picking a .223

Hi folks,

I am going to be buying a new .223 rifle soon and have narrowed it down to three choices.

-Savage Axis XP
-H&R with synthetic Handi Grip stock
-H&R with laminated Monte Carlo stock

I am hoping people can give me some real world experience with these guns. I have H&R and Savage in other calibres and both are great.

Budget is critical with this purchase which is a big reason I've narrowed it down to these three.

Without knowing what the intended purpose of the rifle is I'd say Savage Axis: you have the ability to easily upgrade components with the Axis.

You're never limiting yourself with a single shot. They are just better for different things. The single shot will be shorter for a given barrel length, it will also be trimmer. It depends on what you want to do with it. I would prefer a bolt action for a coyote rifle or a range rifle. I love my Ruger No. 1 for big game hunting though, single shots can be amazing hunting rifles.
 
I should have mentioned that the gun will be about 90% range use off a bench.

I lean toward the Savage. I could take the scope off it and put it on a rimfire and put my Bushnell Banner 4-12 on the Savage. I've also had the chance to handle the Savage but nobody local has the H&R.

That being said, I really like H&R rifles and bolt vs single shot is not the deciding factor. More interested in accuaracy and reliability. I guess I should have put that in the original post as well.
 
Between those 3 I would have to say the savage. I have one and it shoots good. A trigger upgrade is a must though. Also take the scope that comes on it and toss it in the garbage not on a 22 rifle. I put one on a 22lr I have and it crapped out in a few months. I'm sure a tasco would do better then that bushnell.
 
Thanks for the feedback guys.Ii'm going to go with the Savage. Now I just have to decide between camo or black. I don't usually like camo on guns, but it really seems to work on the Axis. I'm looking forward to picking one up this weekend and hopefully getting to the range the same day. Life is good.
