Hey Folks I am wondering if any one else have had problems with disassembling one of these rifles. We have two in the family and my Grandfathers came apart fairly easily but mine is being a pig.. Ive tried a few methods but can remove the barrel. There is a threaded stem underneath the barrel that the fore grip slides over. I can't get it loose.... Any suggestions.. Thank you Jay

My Model 6 was very tough to get loose too. I believe that the slide tube is loctited from the factory.

I had to modify a screwdriver - I cut it very short so that it just fit through the holes. Leave it long and it will bend. I then "gently persuaded' it with a few 'firm' taps of a wooden mallet against the screwdriver handle to get it started.

Mine was subjected to a thorough, multi-day soaking on a caribou hunt many years back and as a result, water got under the butt (where there is NO protection) and raised the grain and urethane finish. I decided to refinish so disassembly was a requisite. Upon removing the forearm from the slide tube (which was seized/rusted on) complete disassembly and touching up the rust was the only way to go. (really happy with the refinish job too)

Had I known of this weakness, the gun would have never seen the rain. It certainly won't going ahead as I have another for that task. :)

Hey FG I finally got it!!!! With some help from my Dad its finally apart..

Now my Grand fathers 760 had that wood raising issue but that was from years of neglect. I'm actually refinishing mine... (Nickle Plating) I've seen others and it looks incredible. I'll flip you a pick when its done FG Cheers and thanks for your help.

nickle plating it .... sound awesome pm me a picture if you get the time

Nickle plating a Remington 760? To each their own, I guess, as long as you like it. On the plus side, you can use it as a signal mirror if you become lost while hunting.

For sure Scally... I will as soon as I get it back.. now I'm looking at different stock and fore grip options. I bought a Hogue setup for my 870 shot gun and it fits me nicely. but I'll see what I can find.

I'd like a pic too, PLEASE. I'm thinking about giving the all weather look to a couple of the "dreaded" 742's that I have (special purpose guns). Plating with synthedic stocks, if I can find them. One 6mm and one carbine 308.

Sorry for the delay guys! Lots of changes for me! Got the 760s done and deer hunted this year to test them out! Pics up by Friday! Or pm me thanks regards J!
