Hawken, good and bad brands?

True, I probably used the wrong term.
Cast is more typically applicable to shouldering a shotgun quickly to acquire a target.

I should have known this being a Grulla owner.

I wasn't trying to check you or anything ;)

The topic of butt plate design is very interesting however, I've heard a lot of different theories as to why some were curved like that and some more so (like the Ohios, Shutzen etc) best I ever came up with was that it was a style preference. Even some of the original Hawkens were made with flat shotgun style plates.

Whatever caplock you buy keep in mind the L&R Lock Company in the USA are the go to folks for swift and reasonable lock repair.
I had a mainspring break during mid November and it came back to me repaired with a spare mainspring mid December.
My Hawken is the discontinued Browning Mountain Rifle. Never met a .50 caliber PRB shooter that did not like 100 grains of Geox for deer vitals possible 100 yards with full side on to a standing still deer.

Very interesting. I have dealt with L&R in the past for repairs to their locks, but did not realize that they serviced other maker's locks.

Yes sir. I was unaware of this too until I watched an episode of American Shooter.
They covered the Friendship Match and low and behold they (L&R) had a booth there specially for servicing the myriad of muzzleloading rifles and pistols.
One quick phone call confirmed thier extensive gunsmith services.
Cheers
