Lyman's are OK, and the only 'offshore' ML I ever buy, but have you guys ever tried to have warranty work done on one?

I know it is the norm to bash the cheaper off-shore stuff here on CGN but years ago (about 18) when I was not so flush with cash I bought a CVA Hawken kit and finished it myself. Well, that muzzleloader has never given me any problems and has killed so many deer over the years that I can't even guess a total. With the supplied iron sights it is easily minute of deer out to 100 yards which I think is pretty much maximum range for a side hammer gun with iron sights.
I am currently waiting for the arrival of a Great Plains Rifle .50 flintlock kit from TOTW. I got the kit because it is a bit cheaper and I want to brown the barrel and furniture instead of the factory blueing.I have never handled one of these rifles or even seen one in the flesh, so here's hoping I won't be disappointed.
You are correct it is a percussion, though I also have a Thompson Center Arms Renagade 54 cal. flintlock that has a lock setup that doesn't seem right to me and is rather inconsistant.
T/C...why?... quality and warantee...I had an incident with mine that resulted in a cracked stock...called T/C and they said ship it back for a free replacement factory finished/fitted stock...they paid the shipping one way too...they stand by their product and your satisfaction...
Resale value is also a factor but not for me as mine is a keeper!!

I had a Lyman Trade Rifle.
Cracked at the breech block!
Noticed just before my son was going to fire a shot!!
Lyman replaced the gun immediately...at no cost to me of course.
Said they had never seen that before.

Thanks to all that replyed ,I like silverback have a CVA hawkin that shoots just fine(just weak grainy like pine wood)and just bought a TC and it has great hardwood.
So I'll be looking at a Lyman(is it hard wood like the TC?).

When that movie came out TC was in the money. I'd go with the TC Hawken if I were to buy a sidelock. I did however own an older Lyman GPR and thought it was just as good if not better than any. I presently own a Pedersoli Frontier (nice wood). They came out with their version of the Hawken which is suppose to be the closest copy of the original. Very nice looking ml, very nice price tag too!
