im looking to get vz58
in non restricted
should i get 5.56 or 7.62x39
can anyone convince me to get one caliber?

I wasnt aware of a 5.56 in non-restricted. Also i find one of the main advantages of the 858 in 7.62 is the cheap ammo but to each their own
 
7.62x39 = cost effective ammo!

you can fire off hundreds and still have enough scratch in your pocket for a couple pint's afterwards.
 
Barking cat??? That is funny. I have one of both - and I believe that is the correct answer in this case. Even though the 5.56 version by CSA is much nicer in it's finish, etc., the 7.62x39 would be the one I would choose if I had to choose only one. They are my "go-to" guns for just about all fun outside of hunting (I do use them for hunting too.) The ultra cheap ammo for the 7.62 is great. The not having to keep it squeaky clean thing is a bonus for the 5.56 with the non corrosive ammo thing.
 
As it has been said.
Get the 7.62x39 for cheap ammo. (Also good for hunting.)
Get the 5.56 for accuracy.

You can not go wrong with either decision.
 
7.62x39. as before mentioned, with some decent soft point ammo the 7.62x39 will hit like a 30-30, for your hunting pleasures. just make sure you clean your rifle promptly after firing ammo with corrosive primers. i always knew you had to clean well, but i have started pulling apart the gas system at the range and giving it a quick wipe down before i drive home. not always necessary, but i almost ruined a piston by letting the rifle sit for a day after some heavy firing.
 
I keep reading on here about how a 7.62X39 will "hit as hard as a 30/30", now I'm no Scientist but how can a bullet that weights 33% less then another but goes the same speed, have the same power? Or are they talking about at longer ranges, where the great accuracy of the SKS comes into it's own?

Ive read it here many times too. Someone should do some research in a reloading manual and post the details and real difference... maybe we should be comparing the 7.62 x 39 to the Win 25-20 or something?cou:
