HD/SHTF Handgun

...'Had a really serious threat on my life and that of my family a couple of years ago. While waiting for the "Cavalry" to arrive (911 call on cordless 'phone) I stood by with a clear plan of action, with an 870, full of SSGs and the last round a rifled slug, and a PPK in the back pocket, loaded with "Glasser Safety Slugs" and "Winchester Silver-tips". Luckily, neither was needed ,as the local Police Mbrs. were quickly on the scene, and naturally enough, the pursuit was then on ! The "bad guy" got away, only to crash and break his f.... legs, a few days later! I should mention, the reality is that most household B&E occur during the daylight hours, and only take a matter of some 6 to 10 minutes from start to finish. Houses that appears occupied, and particularly ones with a dog, do not become targets of opportunity, for a teen aged B&E "artist" ! Having two friends forced to shoot and kill, it's definitely NOT something to be entered into lightly ! Realistically, and it's no reflection on one's masculinity, better to let the criminal bugger off, and be able later to ID him and give a good victim impact statement ! ..... David K.

Scenarios:

1. The guy has a gun, you go to hit him with a bat and he shoots/kills you and your whole family...
2. You spray him with 22lr and one shot from his 45 puts you to sleep then he opens up on your family...
3. You open fire and blow him away with your AR/.357/.44mag/shotgun with slugs etc, yay! Then you realize you put the bullets through the side of your house, the side of your neighbours house, and into his 3 year old daughter...

Could you live with your family or an innocent person being harmed by your actions? I know I couldn't...

This goes back to the thread a couple of weeks ago but THINK PEOPLE! Get something that will PUT THEM DOWN in one, maybe two shots for sure. Something that WILL NOT OVERPENETRATE. And most importantly DO NOT MISS! If you don't feel comfortable in your own home with the advantage then head for the hills, put up bars, buy reinforced doors but whatever you do make sure each and every single shot you fire counts or you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a gun.

For me it's my compact Kimber Tactical with hollow points, if I was assured there was only one person breaking in then I'd feel comfortable with only two rounds in the mag, one to put him down and one to keep him down.

Think about it people.

This is by far the best and well thought out response I have seen.
My home piece is a 5" S&W model 29. I load 265gr Jacketed flat points with a medium load. About 900 fps.
More than enough to knock anyone down, but will NOT penetrate a 2x4 on edge all the way. Rationale for the da revolver, I have seen too many people in the heat of the moment get the asses in trouble forgetting the safety, or to #### a firearm. A d/a revolver is idiotproof, 5" points well, as I am wholly dependent on glasses it is a gun I can point shoot very well. The sheer size also has some intimidation factor, no-one can say "I did not know he had a gun" and all I have to worry about explaining is round #7
