On Friday November the 18th at the Burlington Rifle and Revolver Club while shooting the Triangle match Eugene Kasiac suffered a fatal heart attack. Eugene was well known to many of us as an avid IPSC shooter and CRO, he was also an excellent bullseyes shooter having shot many perfect targets . He was also a Black Powder handgun shooter have been on the canadian teram for that sport.
The shooting sports has lost a friend in Eugene doing what he loved to the end.
We will miss him.

Just pulled into Burlington Friday to shoot the second part of the match after this happened, My condolenses go out to Eugenes family and friends, I did not know him but I am sure he will be missed.

I totally agree with you Slavex and as a good friend of the match director I am going to suggest just that as Eugene was a friend of his as well and was well known to all of us in Ontario.

very tragic, very sad. A reminder that you never know when your time is up, or how short life potentially can be....you have to enjoy life, and remember how fortunate we are....

Felt a little strange shooting on a range the day after...didn't know the fellow but sound like a good guy, shame way too young...

Here is his obituary from today's Hamilton Spectator.

"Kasaic, Eugene-(1942-2005)
Died suddenly on November 18, just one year after retiring from Stelco after 36 years of employment. During his time as a member of the Canadian Muzzle Loading Team, Eugene travelled the world over, making friends as far as Japan. He valued the beauty of nature and found a place in his heart for all living creatures. His love and compassion knew no bounds. He leaves behind Mira, his lifelong sweetheart and wife of 42 years, his sister, Marija, brothers, Kruno and Damir and their families in Croatia, his only daughter, Irene, grandaughter, Suzanne, and a nephew, Robert, in Miami. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place."

I have known Eugene for nearly twenty years. He was one of the worlds greatest shooters. No one could out shoot him in the Intercounty Bullseye league, he was one of only a few shooters who put Canada on the map in black powder. His basement looks like a trophy shop due to the staggering number of awards he has won. In IPSC, many younger shooters could barely keep up to him. He was a tough but fair IPSC RO, the only one who ever DQ'd me. There was never a question of "I think his finger was in the trigger guard". He knew, and if you deserved a DQ, then that is what you got. Kept the game honest and professional. He was a great gunsmith although he seemed to keep his work at an inner circle of friends level. His bluing was beyond compare. Everytime I saw a blued Colt Python, I thought of his buing because that is how it looked. People were drawn to Eugene because he was like a big teddy bear to people and he was really smart. He did love all creatures as mentioned above. I'm sure the cats in his neighbourhood miss him already. On behalf of many I'm sure, great knowing you. Good bye old friend.
