Shooting sporting clay, It amazes me, the number of times a shooter will know they shot low or behind, seemingly before they pulled the trigger. I have even heard people say “I was behind that and shot anyway.”. Another example is riding a incoming target and missing a close easy target?? Not sure what the point here. This game of clays is a head game at times.

Shooting clays is 90% mental, as will be because your body is relying on your internal computer to time everything perfect to create an inkball. Shooting a moving target with a shotgun is entirely instinctive in my opinion, once you've eliminated the basics of gun fit & pattern issues.

I agree that skeet , trap or sporting is a "head game".When my head is right, I can hardly miss. I usually bring 4-5 shotguns to skeet every week and a shoot all of them.They all fit me well so it's the head game that I work on. I'm trying to shoot well regardless of what shotgun or gauge I shoot.
yeah... when I have a 'bad day' I really have a bad day... was on the field a few weeks ago and people are wondering what I'm doing, my stance was off, I wasn't holding tight so my shoulder got all beat up... should have sat and watched and saved the ammo and the beating I gave myself.
