i just had my 340 wby mk-5 rebarreled and i'm having feeding issues. i checked and the face of the barrel it is machined flat (no feed ramp ) my other stock mk-5 has a taper at the face
that my new barrel doesn't have my issue is theoretically the belted magnum is head spaced on the rim. if i get a taper machined on the face of the new barrel could it throw out my head spacing

Weatherby Mark V's require that you cut an angle on the chamber where the 'belt' of the case goes... almost removing all of the belt recess. The tip of the cartridge hits right there when feeding one in... if is it left flat it will stop the case from feeding. You don't remove all of the belted recess... but most of it and it has to be tapered.

This picture shows what needs to be done. On a Mark V that bevel can be cut even more than I have done on this 700 bbl.

There is no powder down there. Where the belt is, its solid brass. So no need for support.

The second pic on this page shows a pic of a belted case cut length wise http://www.larrywillis.com/headspace.html

Does that bevel affect the cases? Looks like it’s missing a significant amount of belt support?

The purpose of the belt on a magnum case is to simply stop forward case movement... nothing to do with supporting case expansion... which does not occur at the belt even with hot loads.
