When doing a barrel swap on revolvers, how do you determine proper safe headspace. i know when you rebarrel a rifle you have a go and no go gauge that you close the stripped bolt on to ensure a safe "to spec." chamber. need info.

A barrel on a revolver doesn't control the headspace. That would be the relationship between the cylinder and the breechface. As Repete suggested cylinder gap is set when a revolver is rebarrelled.

Note the rim on revolver brass... that is how it is "headspaced" ;)
There are no "go" / "no-go" gauges for a revolver that I am aware of.

As mentioned above, cylinder gap is the area to be concerned with when fitting a barrel to a revolver.

It's a model 29 smith. I'm going to do the 4.25" thing. Thanks for the help. I'm starting to get addicted to this site.

"...for a revolver..." There are. Brownell's has 'em. However, like RePete says, you deal with the cylinder gap not headspace when rebarreling a revolver.
