Heads Up--Large Gun Auction

That place sounds similar to the Bancroft auction we have here. Tons of high priced junk. A lot of fellas will put their defective firearms in an auction to get rid of them at top dollar.

I have bought many milsurp rifles at on-line auctions and most of them were at very competitive prices compared to what I would have paid elsewhere including CGN. The few exceptions were guns that I just had to have, and even then, I set the amount I was willing to pay and there were no suprises, because I read and understood the terms of the auction.

Rather than just dismissing auctions as "stupid expensive", a thinking, disciplined person can take the following simple approach - know what you're willing to pay, know the various components of the total cost, and don't over-bid.

Isn't that the case with any type auction .. do your homework.. :)

I know Moreguns had some legal problems, but what happend later.?? Did he get his guns back,..is he selling them at auction, or are they now in the hands of the RCMP and are they selling them ???

As per the newspaper a little while back, almost all charges were thrown out. I think possession of the flare guns the RCMP decided could be converted to working firearms (at great risk to the person pulling the trigger) were the only thing he pled guilty to. (IIRC).
He had to forfeit the business license but was permitted to keep his PAL, and he will be getting the proceeds from the sale of the business' merchandise. Supposedly everyone who had purchased firearms that hadn't been shipped at the time of the raid was allowed to retrieve their merchandise as well.
Again, this is just as I recall from what I read in the paper a couple months back.

You know, as I mentioned, I have nothing to do with this auction house. And another thing. I really regret posting this. I thought I might be doing some members a favour who might be interested in a certain gun but weren't aware of this auction. But from some of the #####ing by some members it clearly wasn't worth it. And these members probably have no intention of buying in the first place.

Don't sweat it, guy.

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing a whole new batch of norc M-305 show up at the Manitoba gun shows for $600+ ;)

Epps just got a whack of them in for $400, if anyone is looking. Price increases my fanny....

Do your homework, set your price and stick close to it.

Few years back, I attended a well-known Manitoba auction.

Spent more than my budget (of course) but did come away with a Water Pistol (Astra 400) and a Number 2 Mark 1 (NO stars, completely unmessed-with) Enfield revolver. IIRC, I spent something like $230 on the pair, taxes in.

Of course, that was after I had ruined my record by shelling out $90 for a butchered 71/84 Mauser and "undisclosed sums" on a Kar '71 with assorted bits, pieces and shreds missing and "even more" on a Cooey Carcano in terrible shape except that it still had BOTH triggers and they worked.

I came away with less money..... and more iron.... than I had bargained for, kicked myself firmly in the fundament (several times), vowed never to do it again..... and ate spaghetti for the following 2 months.

But it was worth it.

I thank the OP for this thread. I won't be going because I am ALREADY on Spaghetti..... something to do with this 1777 Charleville that turned up......

Go, have fun.

And if you overspend, DON'T blame the poor OP.

Just keep chanting the mantra quietly, "I am doing this to myself; it is fun. OMmmmm! I am doing this to myself; it is fun. OMmmmm! I am doing this.....".

I have already exceeded my budget for this season (Thanks to JPC) and the Carberry gun show is coming up in about two months!

I already have to save a bunch of money to buy some trees, strawberry plants, rhubarb and put in my garden this spring. Yikes! What to do- What to do?

I think I may have to hide in Smellies sock closet till spring.
janice

Have to get wider plates, I think.

That Sock Closet door was designed for pushing Pizzas under; plate of Spaghetti could end up being decapitated.

Oooooooo, the mess!

I predict someone is going to get a screaming deal on some ammo. Auctions are simple, know what you want and know the price of it. I see they have a $10 per gun charge as well.
