Heads Up!!!....Magpul UBR

Leading edge? It's a stock, not a iPhone that took many years and tens of millions of dollars to engineer.

I'm sure it's a fine product and all that blah blah blah... but at $450 we're getting ripped off, no two other ways about it. ESPECIALLY considering its $250 down south, which personally I think is about the highest a plastic stock should fetch. It's obviously about the look, hence my kool-aid comment. To think this stock provides $450 worth of functionality, or $250 more functionality than a CTR, is ludicrous.

Rip-off, rip-off, rip-off.

you Spend around $1500 for a Nice Ar15 rifles, and if you find a nice stock for $400, It worth-ed, and you Like it, if not or If you Happy with a $50 stock, that find, price sometime doesn't mean Performance, Usually is Look.

Fair enough, I'll never out a guy for wanting to spend money and dress up his rifles....Do what keeps you interested in shooting.

Me, I'd rather spend the money on ammo, improve my marksmenship and firing skills. That's just me.

you have a choice if you really wanted or Not!, go with the $50 stock then, if it work fine, then used.

I wonder what the average profit margin is on the Magpul line anyways....I mean, whats the production cost of a piece of plastic moulded into the shape of a stock?

If the price is being driven up by demand, thats a difference story, but still....

I saw one in Salt lake city for abit over $200USD, Now if I have to buy one here for Over $400, I would think twice about it also, but the people bring in the product have to get pay some how, otherwise it not worth doing it then.

I love my UBR. They look good and they're solid. Yes there is a kool-aid factor involved but what sport/hobby does not have kool-aid products. Is it worth $400? Well that is an entirely subjective question. Is it valued at $400(+)? The answer is undeniably yes. I have sold several for more than that. Its simply a supply and demand issue, and guess what, the demand is far greater than the supply. At least in Canada. I would not put one on a Norinco, but my Noveske...hell yeah!

Totally agree that looks outweigh performance to some.

Well I guess the one I just sold on the EE for $350 shipped was a good deal.

The UBR needs to be seen to be appreciated, and if you can afford it, why not have it?

We will have to pay more for everything imported here anyway. It's the nauture of being a Gun Nut in Canada. Imports cost a premium and firearms and their accessories cost more so.

When you take into account that few UBR stocks were imported before the US DOS restricted their export, and that only recently they have become available, in small numbers, it stands that the cost of a UBR stock would be $150 more than the US.

As for the UBR stock itself, I don't think it's for everybody's carbine. I can't imagine using one on a short barreled rifle or any kind of lightweight carbine. In my case, I built an SPR type rifle and my requirement for the stock is that it is solid, adjustable and it has a good heft to it, so it balances the heavy barrel. Push button type QD sling attachments are also a requirement, since I have moved to them exclusively for all my AR15's. The UBR's ability to set custom preset lengths of pull is an asset, and the flexibile storage is a bonus. Add to that Magpul's excellent record for quality and innovation, and it's a very attractive piece of kit. The UBR has no equal when used in the role I intend to, if only I could find a BLACK UBR for sale.

Besides, if you think the UBR is a ripoff, it's only a ripoff to you. Cost only matters to the guy who's paying for it.

If it were the best piece of kit I'd understand. But it's not the best stock...

It's not the sturdiest or most robust battle rifle stock.
It's not the lightest stock for entry.
It's not the most adjustible stock for accuracy.
It's not the stock that has the least amount of points to snag on equipment.
It's not the most adaptible to allow storage of items that would be required in the field.
It's not the stock with the tightest tolerances or smoothest action.

What it is... well marketed to the those that are apt to be influenced advertising.

If you have the cash, great. If you like the looks, even better... I like it too. Fill you diaper. But there's many time tested sayings that speak to the intellect of people and their money.

I really like Magpul. Very innovative and because of the materials and manufacturing processes historically quite reasonably prices by comparision. And quodos to any retailer in north of the 49 for bringing them in.

But over $400 for a plastic stock. While its only expensive if you can't afford one its definately not worth it. Plus paying that amount for it has the potential for driving up the cost of other companies parts because now they'll look cheap by comparison. Keep in mind it's not any better.

Hell, those chump Canadian idiots are so desperate and stupid they'll pay anything. Watch this! We'll double the cost of an already overpriced, overhyped item. And then we'll triple it... Ha ha ha... don't forget to swallow.

And how do I know all this... I'm a HK fan and have been hammered by the company for years. Many would consider HK to be not worth the inflated price tag. The difference here is that HK is much better quality than the the average offering, but I still know and freely admit its overpriced and grudingly pay for its uniqueness and high quality. But this stock is not any better. But there's knowing and then there's practice:D

Afterall we all have to pay a little extra to Magpul to pay for all that glossy advertising right?
