I just grabbed mine today and was lucky to get it. My post office had to call around in order to get some from another post office in our area. Several small town po's are out of them. So just a heads up for those of us who live in small towns. Get your permit while the gettins good.

Got mine @ the main post office in Ottawa :). Lady behind the counter said she wished the post office didn't sell them as she doesn't like hunting ;-). I was going to ask her if she ate meat or wore leather shoes, but just bit my tongue & paid for the permit.

My po lady is happy to talk hunting. It always surprises me that you need to show your license, dna test, dental exam and pass an eye and drug test just to buy ammo at canadian tire but you dont even have to show even id to get the migratory permit.

Just another stamp, really. Why would you need to present ID to buy a stamp?

Some folks collect them, that don't hunt, too.

I needed one this spring, and couldn't find one for love or money. Will buy one this fall whether I need it or not.

It also happens to be a hunting permit. Key words being hunting and permit. They like to collect data on past hunts the same as deer. Im just surprised they dont even take you outdoors card number.

It is but it isn't. You need it in addition to your hunting license. Once they have you in the system as having a hunting license, it becomes a matter of asking if you bought a Migratory Permit.

The difference is that the Migratory Game Bird Permit is a Federal requirement to hunt migratory game birds, but it is not in itself a permit to hunt.

Nobody gives a damn if you buy one that you won't use for hunting, but you must have a Provincial hunting License to actually hunt, usually with an attached 'Conservation Fee' or surcharge, etc. That is the one you need in order to hunt at all. The duck stamp, is just another additional collection.

But if any of your hunting partners buys only the Migratory Permit, make them take their own truck out hunting, and don't lend them any guns, eh. You might not get them back if they get checked out in the field.

Cheers
