Headspace Help with a cooey 75 single shot

Hello all.
I have cooey model 75, no identifying marks other than a c stamped on top of action and side.
The issue im having i believe is too tight headspace. The bolt is too tight when loading round and one shot actually went off while pushing bolt forward. You can see brass marks left on bolt and barrel and if you load a round and eject you can see slight firing pin mark without shooting. Also on bolt handle you can see shiny marks from loading. I put about 10 rounds through of 22LR
My thoughts are wrong bolt
Could it maybe not be ment for LR
Headspace
Firing pin nor retracting, enough

Got this gun from my uncle but he never shot it. Was hoping to get my boys shooting it but with the fire while loading and the over tightness it is not a good choice for them right now

Where should i start with this. Was planning to do some work on this and get looking nice but won't if it is wrong or unsafe. Thanks for anyhelp you can offer me.






 
You can gently take a file and remove a small amount of metal from the back flat section of the bolt handle till it works properly. I've done this many times to get em to work. Sounds like it won't need much to work.
 
Thanks. Yes i plan to fully clean really well before anything wanted to show the brass.
I had also thought about filing handle as well but was unsure. Will be soaking bolt tonight and fully cleaning chamber.
 
drop a new round in the chamber with out the bolt in it and see if it drops all the way down with out any pressure, a lot of these will have lead build up in front of chamber if shot with shorts or longs.
the bolt could be mixed up with another gun, will change head space sometimes.
I like the lifter, had a old fellow (like me) asking for a lifter at last show, thought you could still buy one for a $1.00
 
The pin which retains the rear portion of the bolt has plier marks on it. Someone has been messing with the bolt. The bolt needs to be carefully inspected.
 
The sharp edge at the rear bottom of the bolt needs to have a bit of roundness to it so it will assist in closing the bolt. Don't remove metal from the flat of the rear of the bolt... that is what controls the correct fit of the bolt. The front of the bolt is supposed to contact the rear of the barrel when closed.

If it fired on closing the bolt the trigger has been messed with...

It's a lousy rifle for kids... the repeater is even worse.
