Headspace Issue With Ross Rifle

B/H
If you have checkering, get that butt plate off right away, and have a look.
O5 Es (factory sporter) were checkered, and no militaries ever.
Google "Ross 1905 E sporting rifle images" and compare.

I am pretty much convinced I have a 1905 MkII military rifle that has been sportered.

Another feature this rifle has that I haven't seen on a couple of other factory built sporters is the cartridge release lever at the front of the trigger guard.

The cartridge release lever is actually the mag cut off. This pretty much clinches it as being a sportered military rifle.

1905 M Plate 67 M RRS?
We have 20 -30 posts guessing at an unknown entity with no pictures, no understanding of Ross history (save yourself and a paucity of few) , and no news as to the definitive action that will easily render the answer.

I'm out.

I honestly did appreciate your input and it led me to identifying my rifle as a well done sportered milsurp. Thanx to everyone and OP, I apologize for hijacking your thread.

I agree OGC that pictures would be a big help. But the chances of it being a first model 1905-M (plate 67 RRS) are very very slim, as they are extremely rare. This is the only factory model that I am aware of that has the mag cut off.

The second and third type of the 1905-M did not have the mag cut-off. The 1905-Ms were military rifles that were sporterized by the Ross factory to be sold to the public.

I have a second type 1905-M and it has no cut-off.

Bearhunter also mentions that there are no serial #s under the butt-plate.

Sorry, did not see your last post bearhunter.
