Hear Alan Korwin Answer: "Why does anyone need an AR-15?"

Essentially how I answer "that question".

Some guy: "Why do you need a gun?"

Me "I don't need it, I want it"

Usually stumps then and It changes the question to "why do you want it?" And you go from there...

I need it to shoot things with.

Although I only really need a bowl, a robe and a tree to sit under. My sigline is from Diogenes anyway.
"I threw my cup away when I saw a child drinking from his hands at the trough." - Diogenes

Why does anyone need a +100hp vehicle?
Why does anyone need +1000sqft home?
Why does anyone need +1 child?
Why does anyone need pets?
Why does anyone need +2 pairs of shoes?
Why does anyone need ______?

"because it's a great fricken gun". Damn straight.

I love it...if only it was that simple.

I have one because I like to do several different types of target shooting, and the AR-15 is versatile enough to do them all pretty well. My Colt/Spikes is a bit heavy for CQB, or Three Gun, but it works regardless. It's capable shooting MOA consistently with the right ammo so I can shoot groups off the bench, or out to 600 m at Petawawa off the Bi-pod. It's three rifles in one!!!! If you're not swimming in cash it's a great buy on versatility alone. Speaking of cash, it's also cheap to shoot.

I think Rod is mistaken bringing up the idea that it protects more lives than it takes. I downplay that whole side of things. I point out that IN CANADA, I can't recall a single incident involving an AR-15, it may have happened, but I no memory of such an incident, nor could I find one using Google (my Google Fu isn't well developed though). I also love refuting the whole high power death machine thing. It's a center fire rifle after all so it has some "balls", but in the grand scheme of things it's a pipsqueak.

Unfortunately people as a group are pretty dim, and pigheaded. If the facts don't fit their narrative they dismiss them outright. I've had this discussion with friends in the past, at times I feel like I'm talking to a floor tile instead of an "intelligent" person.

Why does anyone NEED an AR-15? Well, it has an adjustable stock and low recoil. So, it's particularly well suited for women and people with smaller stature, including many visible minorities. In other words, the AR-15 promotes gender equality and inclusiveness. Anyone that is opposed to the AR-15 is by definition a misogynist and a racist.

This is true, the media have a huge impact on this aspect and there is no question that they are heavily biased against guns.

Case in point, after the Vegas shooting I was talking about it with some guys I work with (decent guys, some of them are gun owners) and they were adamant that banning full auto weapons was imperative. I explained that wouldn't help as full auto for the average Joe had been banned for many years so if there were full auto guns out there they were modified semi autos or smuggled in both of which activities are already illegal anyways so additional laws are kind of pointless.

They were adamant I was wrong and that you could simply go into a regular gun shop pretty much anywhere in the US and come out with a full auto. Luckily we live in the age of Google so a few clicks later I was able to win the argument.

My point is that even among pro gun people there can be a level of media brain washing and ignorance

Stop wasting bloody time on something that’s not even an issue in Canada. Such fake phony pony’s being led and paid to come against uselessness. They don’t want people safety. They want safety for themselves and the phony fake refugees their bringing in. Their purposely trying to wreck havoc and have all hell break loose in Canada as well as every other country to do a mass take over one world government system. It’s all about control. Not caring about safety of the innocent. Their the biggest liars walking around.

One of my favourite responses is "because its user-friendliness promotes safe use".

NO doubt, great answer and it opens the door to more discussion.

The Gender equality and inclusiveness angle is great as well.

Because its user-friendliness promotes safe use.
The fact AR 15's also enable gender equality and are inclusive and non discriminatory by nature is an added bonus.

I guess if your dealing with a grade A progressive and they don't like the first couple of responses you could always end with....

Because, "Black guns matter"
Or simply Because "Reasons"

Or ask them how much time they are willing to spend on perusing the answer to their question and then suggest they google it.

Do we ban things based on what they look like?
I'ld love to hear your immigration policy too.

Why do you feel the need to regulate someone else's life?

If you do not trust a teacher with a gun,,,why do you trust a teacher with your kids?

Do you live in irrational fear of all your neighbours?

This could go on and on,,,.
