Heard a Ruger rumour today

Rick Jamison was writing a series of articles in the Shooting Times magazine and was starting to develope the design when Winchester saw that there was potential to the designs then stole what he was promoting.

Suing may not have been the best thing for Jamison to do but he was the one that made the success of the short mag design popular due to these articles.

Win. never stole anything. Many cartridges were of this design. Jamison's patent was for a 'short, fat cart. The specs of his design are vague using a formula of length over girth. Win already had the 284 case which was also short fat. However when Jamison sued, Win. was on the way out so they didn't even contest the suit. This turned out to be bad news for all other gunmakers as precedent has been set. The guy is an unemployed pompus ass. Mark
