Heard it was hard to mount a scope!

ok, i think I understand now. I will be testing it all on my buddys tikka first. haha. No, I just took it to the gun smith last night, hunters, in surrey, and they installed the whole thing for 50 bucks, and bore sighted it. They then also sold me some bullets, which were federal premium (and then something cool like barnes quadruple X bear skin piercing rounds) that were 75 bucks a box. Well now I just need to sight it in, or shoot a black bear from 25 yards. Thanks for all the help. Dave

Your screws should be cleaned with grease or oil remover as well the holes in action I use small Q-tips in alcohol, and use just little lock tite on tip of screws or nailpolish is good as well. This will protect your top quality scope when you remove no cratches or dents on tube.

I'd like to know a little more: Which screws are you referring to here? The ones holding base to receiver? The ones holding rings to base? Or the ones holding the lower and upper ring halves together? And how will the oil remover + lock-tite prevent scratches & dents? I'd like to know this since I'll be mounting a scope soon...

Thanks! :)

normally, if new, the lower ring should be attached to the OptiLok base. all you need to do is attach the bases (or bases if two piece) to the rifle, put the sleeves around the scope, line up on rings and tighten down the top rings. sometimes people remove the bottom ring, not a big deal, but can be a pain. I use a small machinists square to make sure the ring shank is square on the base and carefully tighten up the screw holding it in place. some of the OptiLok bases even have shoulders on them to ensure the ring can only be put on square.
