do you folks use hearing protection while hunting? if so, what do you use? i shoot a 7mm Rem Mag, and it's pretty dang loud. i've been thinking about getting some electronic ear muffs, but i don't like the bulk. earplugs would be ideal, but i also want to be able to have normal conversation. i've looked at the Walker's GameEar, which seems to be the ticket, but it's stupid expensive. any suggestions?

I don't use any hearing protection while hunting any kind of mammals. It seems like I don't get to shoot at anything often enough to make a difference anyways! :p
I did try bringing ear-plugs with on a couple of coyote hunts, but I always get too excited when I see the buggers, and forget to put them in. I find that I don't really notice the noise when shooting at game the same way as when I'm on the range. It just seems like the woods go quieter for a few seconds then start to come back to life. I don't bother with ear plugs anymore because even if I did remember to put them in they're a pain to roll up & put in your ears, especially if they're cold. It's also extra movement.

That said, I DO use hearing protection while goose-hunting. My favorite goose-blind is in a swamp that's right in the middle of a migratory highway. On a good day a flock flies over at tree-top level every 20-40 minutes, no calling required! We listen for the honking & when I see the flock I throw on a pair of black ear defenders.

I use these while hunting...I keep one side in my right ear at all times, and leave the left ear open...when I am about to fire, I just flip the left side in and fire away.
 
mvarley84, where did you find those, they look like they may work a lot quicker then the regular roll and stuff kind. Did you find these at Can. tire or your favourite gun store.
