What recommendations do you have for hearing protection. To me cost is not an important factor since I can't put a price tag on my hearing.

well, if you want to spend the money, I have read and heard great things about Peltor.

Having said that, better hearing protection is not necessarily had by spending more money. It all comes down to the NRR (noise reduction rating) of the muffs/plugs you choose to use.

I bought some muffs from princess auto for $20 (they had a NRR of 22 dB) Recently I upgrade to some from Cabela's/SIR (with a NRR of 27dB) because I didn't think my first pair was adequate enough, especially indoors with all those 1911's going off.

Buy a pair of Peltor 6S's for outdoors, add in a pair of disposible foams for indoor or if you are beside lots of loud boomers.

If you really want to protect your ears, use good quality foam ear plugs, they usually have a nrr of about 32 or 33.

Noise Reduction Rating of 18 db? the 20$ muffs from princess auto at 22db are better than these.

However something to be aware of, the db rating is not linear, 10db is not half of 20db. The higher the numbers the less actual noise difference between them. So the jump from 15 to 16 is a lot more dramatic than the jump from 30 to 31.

At least I think thats how it goes.

That's a refreshing attitude - and the right one!

I love my Peltor Sport Tacs. I think you'll also be in good hands with Pro-Ears.
You'll have to decide on profile. Both these brands make really big muffs (that give one or two more db resistance) and low profile ones. If find if I run with big ones, it feels like I'm wearing a motorcycle helmet - so I only get low profile.

I prefer the blue or tan color ear plugs with the internal baffel. Silencio makes them,,...I have been using them for 4 +years.

I have Pro ears Slim...and I always double plug. With the earns turned on...I can still hear with the plugs in.
