I'm finding that my ear muffs are putting pressure on my prescription glasses which is causing me to miss birds. Anyone have any experience with molded ear plugs? Do they give enough protection? Can you still have a conversation with them in? What manufacturer would you recommend.

I've worn molded plugs for many years. They are custom molded to your ears. Many of the medium to larger shoots in the US have folks there making them. If you are in a more remote area of Canada, you may be hard pressed to find them at a shoot. Try the local hearing aid store. They usually make them, but charge lots for them. The cheap foam ear plugs also work well.

I use Surefire EP3. Have no issues having conversations while wearing them and they block enough of the sound out.

if you call your local costco and ask for the hearing aid dept ( if it has one) they will do them for about 60 bucks

I'm pretty sure Costco has the best price on these. I bought a set of musician's custom ear plugs with a 15 decibel baffle. They can be changed out for a 25 decibel baffle if desired. Pricey though; I paid around $180. I bought them at a hearing aid place in Edmonton.

ear plugs

About 8 years ago I spent almost $2000 for custom E.A.R (custom molded) plugs. They are the same hearing protection used by the US Olympic Shooting team. They are like hearing aids that shut off at a safe noise level so that you can hear everything until the gun goes off. After having used muffs or other hearing protection my whole life I could not get used to the constant noise. Even hunting situations proved difficult because I found they would pick up other noises like cars, etc. and made pinpointing birds difficult. About 6 months after buying them my house was flooded by a massive storm and my earplugs (along with most of my house) were destroyed. I never bothered to replace them. This is just my 2 cents but I don't really know if they were worth the money.
