Heat shield Mossberg 590S

Should just be the regular Mossberg 500 heatshield, I can't imagine any reason the S would be unique.

In which case, Tenda has them listed in-stock.

It's not the heavy 590A1 barrel, it's a regular thickness 590 barrel, 20" with ghost ring sights.

Unfortunately the factory Mossberg heat shield says it's not compatible with ghost ring sight barrels.
I'm also interested in getting one for mine, but I haven't found any good information for the ghost ring barrels.

It can be done

My 590A1 Retro has ghost ring sights...so, completely compatible. I do believe the front sight is soldered on after the shield is installed if that's what you mean?

They're 100% compatible, just not easy to install because you need to spread the clamps to fit over top the barrel rather than sliding it on.

I was thinking about this. With the barrel off, what's stopping installing it from the chamber end? I would think one wouldn't have to spread the front clamp much?

Contact the guy at spade st tactical. He makes numerous heat shields in various colours and patterns. He will ship to Canada. I like the zytel models. They are light and non marking

Check out Western Gun Parts in Edmonton, AB. Have all 3 different models_ blued/black/ marinecoat. Genuine Mossberg parts. Comes as a complete kit. If you need a parkerized heat shield, like I did for my bead sight M590A1, I went to the Mossberg website and got the the 3 parts #s for the heatshield/kit for the Model 590A1 Retrograde which fits perfectly. They had all 3 parts in stock. Great service, prices.

This will sound crazy and brutish, but one way to do it with ghost rings is to slather the clamps and corresponding area of the barrel with Vaseline, use a heat gun on the clamps, position it on the barrel, then whack it hard with a mallet at the front and the rear. If you hit it hard enough, it will seat with minimal scratching. Then secure the plastic spacer and you’re done. Be sure not to cut the spacer too short or there will be a gap (which defeats its purpose of preventing the heatshield from sliding forward under recoil).

As Greenhorse six stated, it isn't impossible. You just have to be careful to pry the 2 front tabs apart on the heatshield to not scratch the barrel. This poses a bit of a dilemma though went it comes to installing the plastic tab and the 2 front screws. I found an easy fix though-better than using a clamp like I saw on Youtube-PITA IMHO.

As is, I find the 2 factory bolts should be about 2-3mm longer. Just long enough to reach the end of the nut. I posted this little trick on here before.

I just went to Rona and picked up a small pack of 6-32 x 1.5in. machine screws and a small pack of nuts the same size. Take the machine screws and run them through the 2 holes on the plastic tab and remove them. You might have to cut the tab a bit depending depending on barrel length so the holes align perfectly. I had to trim my spacer to fit perfectly on a 20in. 590A1 barrel. Then just put the tab in place, align the holes, and screw in both 6-32 machine screws through the 1st. metal tab, through the plastic spacer and through the other metal tab. Attach the nuts to the screws, snug down-not tight. This bends the metal tabs into position. Then take out 1 machine screw, put in the factory bolt, a little dab of purple or blue Loctite on the threads and place factory nut on and tighten down. Rinse, repeat for the 2nd bolt. Easy peasy and no awkward clamps to use. No scratches on anything. You'll notice that the factory Mossberg screws are just long enough. I'd prefer an extra 2-3mm of bolt.

BTW, Mossberg isn't right, they just don't want people to scratch their barrels. GRSights make no difference if you use my installation tip. See my previous post if you're looking for the proper Mossberg heatshield/kit. Good people.

Shotgun heat shield.com is run by the same guy and he is great to deal with.

I ordered one of these from them.

Mossberg 500 590 835 VAPOR EYE Heat Shield Tactical Shotgun 12 Gauge Shroud

Good guy, I emailed him to ask if they shipped to Canada and he replied right away and encouraged Canadians to keep on fighting for their gun rights.
