Heat shield

I put a heat shield on my parkerized 590 with the host ring sights with no difficulty. Like you, I was warned not to, but I'm glad I did. It gives the gun a bit of extra protection when I climbing around the slippery rocks on the coast, in the fall they get covered with a black algae that is like polished glass. I've fallen a couple of times where I am sure the barrel would of been dented had it not been for the shield. There was a couple of small scuff marks when I put it on, but parkerizing is pretty forgiving , and a wipe with an oily rag made them disappear.

Thanx guys I appreciate the feedback. I've got a heat shield waiting for my 590 which is comming in from P&D, maybe today. Sounds like I can marry the two with a little ingenuity and a long handled screw driver,,ouch,,just kidding. I'll post my success in due course.

When you install your heat shield, there is a plastic spacer with a tail that attaches to the front band. You must trim this tail to the correct length so it will act as a stop against the barrel ring that goes around the magazine. Take your time to trim this to the correct length. I trimmed mine a hair short and was left with a small space between the receiver and the rear band of the heat shield. Not that big a deal, but I should of done it better.

Well, I followed the instructions to the letter and got the same little space, 1/16" or less. I won't tell anyone this isn't correct if you don't,:).

Thanx again,,HK
